FuriousMeow Posted July 24 Posted July 24 (edited) I think this is a topic that's well versed at this point, but the AI needs to have less of an engage and stay engaged at all cost programming. They stay in the fight until bingo fuel, like they have the benefit of all awareness so obviously need to be programmed to see less/know less/do less but since they have this "awareness" of everything they know the distance back to their base and the fuel remaining so should have it set to bug out when they are reaching minimum fuel - at least plus 10% - to RTB. Likewise numbers, if they are outnumbered plus 15% they shouldn't engage in equal terms. If they have alt advantage then go in for a pass and disengage and reasses. If they are co-alt one pass then RTB. Stuff like that. Many go on about the AI needing to be better, but in reality these engagements lasted for a blink of an eye. One second the skies were swarming and the next empty. Not that quick, but still there weren't 10 minute furballs even back in WWI. Fighting was exhausting, so if an advantage wasn't clear quickly everyone started looking for the exits. The point is this is that the fighting AI is pretty decent, it just needs a more human thought process to it for self preservation. Multi-player scenarios, or campaigns, where the player has one life is pretty good at replicating how the air battles really were. EDIT: After posting this actually had a flight of MiGs disengage against a stalemate with a flight of F51s which is new. Had MiGs stay in the fight until out of fuel just last week.
