Gutholz Posted July 24 Posted July 24 I saw on youtube that people created some tracks for air racing. Marking the layout with smoke, balloons or floating rings. Does anyone happen to have such mission? I would like to try that. One that can be used in multiplayer.
Hook_Echo Posted July 24 Posted July 24 I made a couple. They're on the old forum. I didn't specifically make them for multiple people at once, but it can be done. They are air starts, so you'll have to figure out with your buddy how to start the race. You have to tell me how you like them, or hate them. I didn't get much feedback, so I don't know how hard or easy they were for people. On the Kuban one, it's best in a plane with a fast roll rate, 190, La-5, clipped Spit. https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/87610-koln-river-race-course/ https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/87772-kuban-belaya-river-race/ 1

I finally tried the Köln river race now. Overall it was fun, just trying to complete without crashing. Is there a timer or do you have to time yourself? Will have to try to the other course soon. At first with Bf109 and crashed two times after flying through the rail station, that turns seemed impossible. Then tried again with I-16 and noticed maybe I had been taking the wrong route. 🙃 That sector at 2min20 is not quite clear to me, I think you are meant to fly over the station, through the ring near the cathedral covered behind smoke. But what about the checkpoint on the ground at entrance of the station hall, somehow I never arrived there. I must have taken some wrong turns but can not figure out where? Potentially it might be better if the spawnpoint is a bit further away from the first checkpoint, so you can sort out your controlls when spawning mid-air. Maybe also so that in MP everyone can has a chance to line up if they did not spawn at excactly the same time. (Did not try in multiplayer yet, maybe it is no problem) Quick video with I-16 to show the course: engine cooked at the end, not really familiar with that plane... Hook_Echo Posted Sunday at 02:58 AM Posted Sunday at 02:58 AM @Gutholz there's a video in the original post that shows the route. It is tricky to follow. When you go through the correct gate the arrows inside the next gate start to animate. There isn't a lot of time to see that though. I crashed a lot when I made it. I'd say take your most flown favorite plane and don't run at full power. I've done that race in spits, mustangs, 109s, and 190s. Good luck flying through the train stations, it's really tough. The course on the Kuban map is much easier to follow I think, but still worth watching the video of my run first. And that course really needs a good rolling plane. There's no timer unfortunately. It may be possible to have a timer now. I'm not very good at the mission editor though, and I haven't touched it since I made these. This was my first attempt at using it and it was quite the learning curve. They may have added in pylons instead of the rings too. For a true multiplayer race I'd need to make it a ground start, and I'd have to lock it to a single plane type.
