Career Mode mission selection is disappointing so far

I checked most plane types and units, checked multiple different years and skipped around through the days to see how the available sorties change and I was very disappointed to see that for both sides almost all sorties available are right near the front line.

I expected some historical leniency for gameplay purposes but some of it goes a little too far. Stuff like being able to frag ground attack missions in the MiG-15 beyond the front lines, something they famously never did. MiG's didn't fly south of the Pyongyang - Wonsan line (lenient estimate, some historians restrict them to a much smaller area just south of Antung for 'Mig Alley') yet every single mission available to the MiG's other than some bomber intercepts are directly over the front line and even beyond it which is incredibly ahistorical.

Checking on the UN side and its much the same. The longest range strike fighter, the F-84, also rarely goes much farther past the front line. All of North Korea was subject to air attack by the UN. Famous incidents like the Sui-ho dam strike are 100+ miles further north than the most northern sortie i was able to find on the map. In fact I wasn't able to find a single sortie that goes past Pyongyang, regardless of year.

Attached below is the furthest north sortie I could find for the UN side, and next to that is a chart of US air losses during the Korean war from the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency(https://www.dpaa.mil/Portals/85/Korean War Air Losses Updated_1.pdf), mainly just to illustrate how much of the air war was conducted in that part of the country and how its not currently represented.

I am hoping this is more a symptom of the career modes first public iteration and less a misrepresentation of the korean air war

Well, yes, part of this is because not all planned mission types that we want to add are in the game yet, as we mentioned in our last blog entry. 🙂 

That said, I just looked at a May 1951 career I have for the F-51, and the available mission distances are relatively far.

The variety of mission types so far is pretty satisfactory, other than maybe missing some infrastructure strikes like the famous attacks on dams and what not. The concern here is more about the location of said missions. There's a lot of north korea that doesn't appear to be touched by the current iteration of the career, but hopefully that comes with the additional mission types you are mentioning.

Yes, missions to destroy supply dumps, dams, and bridges are still in development. That's why there are no missions in the rear. For the MiG-15, there is now a low chance of generating attack aircraft; most likely, they will be removed altogether.

Any chance we will be seeing infantry as targets? Was hugely looking forward to this.
