DefaultFace Posted July 23 Posted July 23 (edited) Dear Devs, Glad to see the many improvements & evolutions of the sim vs GB, on the whole it is a great leap forward. There are however a few annoying features of the current VR & FFB implementation which are left unchanged from GB. FFB: Please implement separate sliders or control for individual force feedback effects, or at the bare minimum a toggle to disable certain FFB effects. Currently the useful effects such as buffet shake & overall stick forces are extremely weak in comparison to the more annoying gimmick effects like ground shake when taxiing/takeoff & gunshake when firing MGs. Things like gunshake may be a matter of preference, personally I find it hugely annoying as it makes precise aiming worse. But even beyond personal preference its currently way too strong for modern FFB sticks which are much more powerful than the old desktop Sidewinder sticks. VR: I don't know why its a thing in this engine but "2 eye" gunsights do not seem to really work properly. The brightness sweetspot is clearly setup for viewing with 1 eye or a single camera as on a monitor. If a VR player sits centred behind the sight the reticle is dimmer than sitting offcentre. This was also an issue with GB which was never fixed. 2ndly this is more of a request as I'm not sure if its possible to do for your engine but: some sims like Falcon BMS or MSFS allow you to do much of the admin & planning work in menus etc in 2D on the monitor, and then switch to VR/3D only when it is time to fly. I personally find this much more comfortable/pleasant than navigating menus in VR. Would be a great QOL feature if something like this could be implemented. Edit: Also just ran into another old bug from the previous game which randomly disconnects all controls when flying in VR with FFB.... 🫡 Edited July 23 by DefaultFace 1 2
Aapje Posted July 23 Posted July 23 (edited) Yeah, it would be really nice if there was a separate FFB page where the strength of each effect could be tuned. Quote planning work in menus etc in 2D on the monitor, and then switch to VR/3D only when it is time to fly. You should be able to do this by adding or_render_eye = 1 to the startup.cfg Edited July 23 by Aapje 1
Dash,Polder Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Yes, the current gunsights are really bad, the Mig-15 is downright painful in VR. It causes cross eye strain long term, it's like the middle is sliced out and the two sides pushed up like a football, you end up staring at a vesica piscis, not a circle. How do you even aim with that? The image should be focused out to infinity, not pasted in a fixed position on two separate images of the sight glass.

DefaultFace Posted July 24 Author Posted July 24 So that setting is somewhat better, but not really a true flatscreen mode like I was talking about. Its still just a repeater of the headset view, just 1 eye instead of 2.

I hate that shaking on the ground and also hate it in IL2 GB. Would be nice to be able to turn it off completely. Even when i put shake and froce to zero the shaking is still there. 1
Blutaar Posted July 30 Posted July 30 In the patchnotes: "Based on user feedback, the intensity and frequency of force feedback joystick vibration have been adjusted." MOZA AB9 user here. I cant confrim this for on the ground operation. The shaking feels the same as before. When taxiing in the Sabre, the stick moves quite alot when going slow. It is really annoying for me. The stick moves at full strength and also the control surfaces. In flight im happy its just on the ground.

Interestingly, it shakes the same on a hardened (concrete slabs) and unhardened airport.
