Hello guys,

I'm wanna share some fun experience with you today. During my free time I'm slovly developing a simple mission for a MiG-15 - Orbiting the Airfied (Take Off, Orbit, Land). The Orbiting pattern and parameters - I'm trying to make as close to historical source ("A methodological guide to piloting and combat use of MiG-15bis and MiG-17 aircraft" of 1952). And it's doable. But...

But recently I've found in our storage another version of this guide - of 1959. And there are some... Figures. Beautiful ones for sure. But...

Taka a look on the image showing the runway and horizon line projection to the cockpit frame during the final approach. Horizon is ABOVE the windshield frame. It's about -20° pitch angle. And the next page confirming this by side-view of final approach.

As a final shot to the head the guide says that speed on final is 270 km/h and the Flare initiation altitude is 7 (SEVEN) meters. I've attached screenshots from the game how it may look like ))))

So this guide part is a complete absurd, to be fair. And here are some video footaghes of MiG-17 and MiG-15 landings of the era - no any sign  that such "Launchpad McQuack" style of landing was used IRL

This is a great example of what we allways stating about - sources are allways got to be cross-checked and veryfied!

PS

There are some notes that MiG-15 flying practice have shown significant ammount of landing accidents during it's service. May be... MAY BE... It's because pilots have had such "cool guides" ? Who knows.
