Just what is "Pilot actions: Cockpit Canopy drop:"?

Jettison canopy without bailing out.

I am guessing that is a thing for some of the jets.  I am mystified as why a pilot would want to do such a thing.  I am looking for a manual that explains this but have not found such a thing.

You can pop the canopy on a jet and manually bail out by hitting the exit aircraft pilot, like you would on the ground.  What else are you going to do when you fire your ejection seat and discover it took a shell and it won't fire.  But you'll have to get your jet slow enough to climb out.
