PROXIMVS Posted July 19 Posted July 19 Good whatever time of day or night it is for you. I have found and started using the Mission Editor and I am figuring out how it works. My basis mission (Bodenplatte Module, the Low Countries) has been created and the 1st airbase is finished (AAF Florennes). My first question is that when I load the game the mission appears nowhere. The Editor seems to have put the mission in an oddball location in my computer (I know where it is ... but evidently the game does not know where it is) and I calculate that is the source of the problem. Thus, my question: Into which folder in Il-2 Sturmovik Great Battles should I move the files so that the game will know where it is and show it? 2nd question is something I could not find specifically stated in the manual on the editor: Parked aircraft as player spawn points. In the basic free flight use of the mission where I will be the only one flying will the aircraft - Not the stationary object aircraft, but the aircraft from the Aircraft Menu - that I positioned in the hangars (or, for that matter, the P-51D ready flight) be the aircraft in which the player (me) spawns? Can I choose which specific aircraft of any of the types available (P-51D, P-47D-28, P-38J) parked in one of those hangars, or do I just select a type of available aircraft and the game puts me in one of the parked aircraft at random? I see how that will work when I establish the formation flying practice missions: that is specifically explained in the manual.
Jade_Monkey Posted July 19 Posted July 19 (edited) 1) For individual SP missions, the files should go in Data> Missions. You can have subfolders there. 2) not sure if I quite follow. You have to place a non-static plane in the map. Turn it into a linked entity, then in the advanced properties of the plane, at the top, there is a drop-down. By selecting "player" you determine which one you will be spawned on. You can only have one plane with "player" in each mission. Jade_Monkey Posted July 19 Posted July 19 Yes. You could explore the co-op approach but it might be a bit more complicated to setup and I believe you neeed to run it as a MP mission. AMD Ryzen 5800X3D | Nvidia RTX 4090 | 32 GB DDR4 | nVME SSD | VR headset: Pimax Dream Air SLAM
PROXIMVS Posted July 19 Author Posted July 19 I shall experiment with that sort of thing as my experience in using the mission editor develops. Right now I'm building the bases for my historical campaign pilots. First just free flight missions, next I'll set up formation flying practice missions, then I'll create a range where ground attacks can be practiced for both sides. At some point I will likely start building them for online cooperative play. Thank you again. Now I'm off to give it a try 🙂 1
Jade_Monkey Posted July 19 Posted July 19 Looks like ranges are being developed by devs: https://media.il2-korea.com/news/dd_80 AMD Ryzen 5800X3D | Nvidia RTX 4090 | 32 GB DDR4 | nVME SSD | VR headset: Pimax Dream Air SLAM

There's also a link to more resources for the editor in the old forum and lots more resources (including air combat resources that apply to the old IL-2 sim and to Korea). Edited July 19 by JimTM 1

It seems you're talking about IL2 Great Battles, correct? The reason I ask is that you've posted in the IL2 Korea forum, and while the mission logic is mostly compatible, there are a few MCUs that differ. Just to keep things clear for everyone, you'd probably want to post in the Mission Editing forum for Great Battles 🙂 https://forum.il2-series.com/forum/43-mission-making-and-mission-editor/
PROXIMVS Posted July 21 Author Posted July 21 Not oddly, on the spinoff missions for each aircraft type it removed all the parked aircraft. I was alone when I spawned in the hangar. I believe that is because the other aircraft parked in the hangars were also from the aircraft menu, not the static objects menu. Oddly, it also eliminated all of the ADA, the two ambulances near the tower, and at the checkpoints around the airfield the M3 half-tracks (there were two at each one along with a jeep and a deuce-and-an-half). That one I don't understand. Oh, and the M8 Greyhounds.
