Viking1 Posted July 17 Posted July 17 (edited) What have you found the best aircraft for ground pounding so far? I love that the P84 can handle16xHVAR No matter which aircraft I choose stability is challenging, getting the trim right at a given speed Anyone experimenting with airbrakes or flaps in the dive? Also curious who has been experimenting with the heavy ordnance. Fragmentation bombs are interesting and they come in several types including parachute. Edited July 17 by Viking1 2
AndreiTomescu Posted July 17 Posted July 17 The best for me? P-80. Feels like a powerful Lighting. Don't like airbrakes in a dive so much, I want speed for recovery, since I drop from very low. Worse? The Mig15. That fellow is the opposite of a ground pounder. Also the P-84 , if you activate the range finder with the gyro, you get some awesome hits from quite far away with the MGs. Once the weapons selector will be fully functional and a bit explained, I think the radar will work for that too. Question: how do you setup ground pounding missions? In the task planner? 1

Question: how do you setup ground pounding missions? In the task planner? You mean the gunsight? I think it is already fully functional, and the radar definitely works. I think there's a short explanation in the in-game manual. 28 minutes ago, AndreiTomescu said: Question: how do you setup ground pounding missions? In the task planner? You don't. At least not until they implement an "AQMB" mode. You can add ground targets, but the mission will always be to engage the enemy aircraft that spawn (which if you add allies, you cannot stop from happening). Edited July 17 by AEthelraedUnraed

A bit ago wasn't Ah that switch. I don't know, I haven't tried. I always just use the bomb or rocket button to release them without further thought 😛 In that case I don't understand what you mean with the radar though; the radar gunsight is already functional (and yes, it works charms for ground pounding).
AndreiTomescu Posted July 17 Posted July 17 From what I've deduced once fully implemented, the radar function for the gyro might be usefull also for precision bomb/rockets release
BlitzPig_EL Posted July 17 Posted July 17 The F 84 is my favorite ground pounder, with the Mustang second. I find the F-80 far too squirrely and unstable in all axis of flight, are they sure they didn't purloin the FM from an Extra 300?

I don't think it's of as much use for bombing. I don't see how the bomb selector switch would make a difference there though.
Viking1 Posted July 17 Author Posted July 17 (edited) Yah so far I've found the P84 works for me, next to try the Mustang. I usually drop my tanks first before I set the trim that makes some difference. Then I set the trim and it feels like 10 degrees of flaps helps with dive stability around 350mph. Anyone else experimenting with flaps in the dive? I'm just starting to play with the gunsight settings to see how the radar functions. How are you guys approaching the target? For convoys it makes sense to approach from the front straight along their path so that any misses fall along the line of travel. I can't see my aim being true enough to attack from 90 offset. Here are those cluster munitions released way too early. Edited July 17 by Viking1
Dash,Polder Posted July 17 Posted July 17 Don't particularly like the sight system in the F-84 for doing anything requiring precision, if it's rockets it's a Mustang, I'll drill one through a tanks hatch on a good run. F-80 isn't bad, but rather limited real estate and load outs. F-86, nah, keep that thing above me fending off Mig's and stuff. Truth is the only Nork side plane I've flown or even hopped into is the La, I'm saving them for later if I need a Christmas day. So far haven't set foot in a Mig, not even a peek, keeping it till the performance improves with those fast ones. Only have a few minutes in a Sabre, more time in the La, which is actually a really nice feeling airplane this round of life. Need prop time, surprisingly I gravitate toward them stronger at this point.
Viking1 Posted July 17 Author Posted July 17 (edited) Love the Mustang for A2A, I'll jump in today for A2G trials. They've really done a beauty job with the F51. Really surprised me how much the rockets drop - wasnt clear until I watched the replays. Edited July 17 by Viking1
Viking1 Posted July 17 Author Posted July 17 (edited) 10 hours ago, AndreiTomescu said: Question: how do you setup ground pounding missions? In the task planner? Yah, I've been using the "ADD TARGETS " in Task Editor. It places a variety of targets near your airbase (whatever you check off), although it wont label the mission as a ground attack mission so you will get a FAIL if you dont take out any air targets you have added. But who cares its great for practice! Here's a Free FLight where I have added ground targets and you can see they do show up on the map but not in the briefing. It let me save the mission with no air targets. Edited July 17 by Viking1 1
Viking1 Posted July 17 Author Posted July 17 Who would like to see a couple dead guys lying by the truck. Does not have to be gory, just casualties.. 1 1
Avimimus Posted July 17 Posted July 17 I almost always open my airbrakes at the start of a ground attack run. It helps with controlling speed gains. I could see using a faster and shallower approach against a very well defended target like a bridge though. But against a lot of targets - brakes out.
BlitzPig_EL Posted July 18 Posted July 18 This is what a 1000lb. bomb does. Knocks down trees and blows up tanks. That burning hulk is a T-34/85.
