In game 'flight manual' about key assignments can be a little deceiving.

In game 'flight manual' about key assignments can be a little deceiving.

If you have made a custom map key for the individual planes and expect those values to show up when you select a plane, select the custom map, and then go into the 'flight manual' and expect those values to show up there, you will find that the values there are only what is in the general map.  The flight manual is still helpful because it will only show those assignment names that the specified plane can use.  However, it does not show any values from the 'toggle' selection.  The fact that the flight manual only shows those assignment names that the specified plane can use is helpful in that you can check to make sure you have indeed assigned a value to every item that plane needs to fully take advantage of every option.

In addition to that it would be nice if we could just filter for the controls that apply to an airplane in the key assignments menu itself

The Flight Manual's key assignment feature has a lot of potential, I hope they work in improving it. I would love to be able to create a plane-specific map directly from there just clicking in each listed control without having to go back to config-key mapping.

Update on understanding the Manual and Key Assignments.

To see what values show up in the Flight Manual and the key listings for a particular plane you might want to make a copy of ‘Custom’ and rename that copy to a name that will help you match it to the plane.  As an example, I made an ‘INPUT PROFILE’ (key map) named ‘X F-51 D’.  I then edited that profile to assignments that made sense to me with the controllers I have.

Settings > KEY MAPPING > PROFILE MANAGER >

Under the column header INPUT PROFILES select like ‘General’ and expanding the list icon select ‘Copy’.  Then go back and do the same on the copy you made.  It will likely be named ‘General (1)’.  But this time choose ‘Rename’ and proceed to rename the copy to something that you can associate with a particular plane.  Then go back and edit the key assignments/commands for the particular actions to values that make sense to you.

Now here is a key to help understand what actions a particular plane has when you go into the Flight Manual.  For the INPUT PROFILE that you have made, again click on the list icon.  This time choose ‘Set as common actions profile’.  When you do this, the game will use that profile for your key bindings.  And more to the point, when you go into the FLIGHT MANUAL the values that show up there will be taken from the whatever profile you have set as the ‘common actions profile’.  Any action that any particular plane does not have will not show up.  And any action you have not assigned a key to will show up ‘Not assigned’.  Some confusions will be that if you assigned keys under TOGGLE, those values will not show up.  And sometimes there will be three assignments like ‘Superchargers stage’, ‘Superchargers stage higher’ and ‘Superchargers stage lower’.  I think you only need to give assignments to the higher and lower and skip giving an assignment to just ‘stage’.

If you have done this kind of thing, say for the F 51-D and then you want to change planes, you likely will want to change what profile you are using as the ‘common actions profile’.

I suspect the devs have made a much better explanation of all this.
