Thank You IL2 Korea For Bringing Me Back To Combat Flight Sims

I had a Warthog, a TWCS, a Buttkicker, a Big screen TV, a decent vid card, and VR glasses to enjoy combat flight sims.  But within the last few years I became disillusioned with a   different company.  Modules unfinished after years, broken promises, and the realization that it was all built on a house of cards.

Then one day 2-3 years ago I walked away.  Deleted the bloat on my hard drive, put away my gear, because I could not stand being taken advantage of any more. I could not stand broken promises. I could not look away from the conclusion that they truly did not care about the community despite the hype. Or that tomorrow morning I could find out that hundreds of dollars in my module investments can be tossed in the can

(BTW, along the way I had tried GB and did enjoy it, but I wanted a different war quite frankly.  )

And then one day months ago IL2 Korea came on my radar.  I was excited about because I knew GB was a quality sim.  But more than that, I was excited because I believe that this is a company that is serious about the community and making good on promises.  That means EVERYTHING to me.  If I'm going to invest money in upgrades, DLC's, etc I need to believe that the company will do their best  to take care of the community.

I bought early access. Dusted off my Warthog, TWCS, Buttkicker and VR glasses.  I'm back baby and enjoying two things: First, the game as it is today. And second, the game I know it will become thanks to a company that hasn't forgot its customers.

Hehehe! Welcome back. You have the gear, the experience and the ....flame!!! 🙂 All is needed now is the promised Korea environment and beyond. I really hope it will come true.

Yep, similar for me, Korea has given me my flight sim mojo back! I love early jets, and finally we have a proper war to fly them in.

What I mean was something other than WWII, and something that I could be immersed in on the American side.  IL-2 Korea fits the bill.   One of my earliest memories as a 5 year old was playing on a real F-86 mounted in a kids park, cockpit and all!

The title has enormous potential, and I really like what I'm seeing. There are many positive changes compared to the previous series, and if all goes well, it will definitely be worth committing to the new IL-2 Series for years to come. I was supposed to learn the DCS F-100D, but it's been abandoned for now and is sitting in a hangar. I'm only flying to Korea right now. 💪

If only they improve the VR optimization, it'll be amazing!

Buttkicker

have you been able to make it work? How?

I haven’t been able to get mine to work with Korea.

Did you put the telemetry text into the startup.cfg?

Also assuming you have buttkicker configured with software like SimShaker or SimHaptic.

My connection is much simpler.  I don't use the software.  I wish I had the software. But I make do without.

I have something called Voicemeeter, which is a small utility that allows you to set 2 different audio outputs.  One of them I set for the VR glasses. The other is set for my monitor speakers.  I plug the buttkicker amp into the monitor speakers, which shuts off the speakers and directs the audio to the butkicker.  Then I adjust the buttkicker to respond to the lower frequencies only.

This is not an ideal set up but it adds to the immersion

I tried that for Arma Reforger but it was very flakey, kept dropping the bass-shaker output.

You have the telemetry key in the config file?

I don't know what the telemetry key is.

I used my set up when I use to play DCS and it worked fine.

You need to open the startup.cfg in Program Files\IL2Series\game\data and enter the telemetry text:

[KEY = telemetrydevice]
    addr = "127.0.0.1"
    addr1 = "127.0.0.1:29777"
    decimation = 1
    enable = true
    port = 29373
[END]

 So it looks like this (example section, it's not the whole thing):

[KEY = system]
    bin_log_folder = "logs\\bin\\"
    chatlog = 0
    chatlog_folder = "logs\\chat\\"
    debug_info = 0
    debug_render = 0
    gamelog = 0
    keep_binary_log = 0
    mgenlog = 0
    mission_text_log = 0
    modes = 0
    playoffline = 0
    reset_configs = 0
    reset_effects = 0
    reset_textures = 0
    sdebug = 0
    show_net_skins = 1
    skin_dir = "graphics\\Skins\\"
    stat_log = 0
    text_log_folder = "logs\\txt\\"
[END]

[KEY = telemetrydevice]
    addr = "127.0.0.1"
    addr1 = "127.0.0.1:29777"
    decimation = 1
    enable = true
    port = 29373
[END]

[KEY = track_record]
    fx_sound = 2
    record_graphics_effect = 1
    record_ground_vehicles = 1
    tacviewrecord = 0
[END]

Save and play the game, hopefully with vibes. 🙂

Edit. The thought I've had is that with no software to point at the startup.cfg file I'm not sure it'll work for you. When I used voicemeter it was to have Reforger's SOUND output shake my shakers, there was zero telemetry involved. I strongly recommend you purchase Andre's SimShaker software.
How did you get it working with DCS by the way? If that worked, the same should work for Korea.

You can do the same with a $15 high quality USB sound card, no software or tinkering required.

I think that's also known as a 'DACS box'. I used one for a while but switched to a 2nd-hand Creative Labs gizmo (Sound Blaster X G5) that has software allowing manipulation of a bunch of stuff. It's what VoiceMeter had issues with though. Works flawlessly with SimShaker and SimHaptic. 🙂
