Have been trying to get familiar with jets and the F- 84 in particular for a flying night coming up.  I put together a pdf doc that pairs the flight manual info with some cockpit screenshots to get more familiar with the guages.  Thought I would share it here in case people find it helpful.

My biggest complaint regarding the flight manual is it describes take off and landing procedures that may be historically accurate but don't really match how the sim flies.  I am starting to construct my own based on trial and error.  Here is my first shot at f-84 take off procedures.   I am no Jet expert so open to suggestion here, but this combines what the manual describes with my actual experience trying to follow it.

Take Off Procedures

  • 1.      Engine Throttle at 0%
  • 2.     Confirm Parking Brake On
  • 3.     Confirm Air Brakes Off
  • 4.     Confirm "Helper RPM Limiter" is on ( might be a game bug, or error by me,only way I can get throttle to respond after engine start)
  • 5.     If Heavily Loaded, make sure to add JATO Booster accessory in load out
  • 6.     Start Engine
  • 7.     Set Flaps to 20%
  • 8.     Release parking Brake and taxi to runway with combination of light throttle and brakes
  • 9.      Reset Parking Brake
  • 10.    Close Canopy
  • 11.      Increase the RPM to 7800 ( or higher!)
  • 12.     Release Parking Brake
  • 13.     Use brakes to keep direction until rudder becomes effective ( 50 mph)
  • 14.     Lightly Loaded, increase speed to 125 to 130 mph, pull stick towards you, should lift off at 140, continue speed to 180, smoothly transition to climb
  • 15.     Heavily Loaded, increase speed to 125, fire JATO booster as you approach 140 mph.  Pull stick towards you, continue speed to 180,  smoothly transition to climb
  • 16.    Lift Landing Gear and retract the flaps
  • 17.    Reduce engine power to below 7400 RPM
  • 18.    Jettison JATO Booster (Jet Boost)
