Here's a short sneak peek mission from my wip "Guards Taejon" Yak-9P campaign. The mission is based on real events that took place on November 2, 1950 near Sinuiju.

The campaigns briefing texts are influenced by an English language North Korean book on the war that I got my hands on. Let's just say they have a somewhat different perspective on certain events than the rest of the world. For a better understanding of the overall situation all mission briefings also contain a section with more neutral historical information.

To install the mission files you can download at the end of this post, place all files in the "IL2Series\game\data\Missions\" folder.

Difficulty in all campaign missions will be rather high. Enemy aircraft will have ace or veteran skill. The only mission objektive is to survive. If you are in trouble, you can try to escape across the Yalu to Antung airfield, that has strong AA defense.

Hooray, the first campaign - congrats Juri_JS!!! I'm looking forward to giving this a go later today - I love the Yak 9; so manoeuvrable!

So far just a single demo mission. It will certainly take some month until everything is ready for release. Also some missions will require the Corsair. I think I will add these missions later, after the release of the first DLC.

BRAVISSIMO!!

Great job, guys—how about we post our missions here? This is the start of the adventure.
That’s how BoS became so popular; it’s also thanks to the community of creators.

Thanks Juri. Will check it out. Any chance you can share which book you are using for the campaign?

I am mostly using "Fury from the North" by Douglas C. Dildy and also some articles he published earlier on the same topic.

The problem with Dildy's work is, that he had no access to North Korean archive's only to American, Russian and Chinese sources. So our knowledge of North Korean air force operations is rather sketchy.

The only available book by a North Korean pilot is No Kum-sok's "A Mig to Freedom". An interesting read, but it wasn't particularly useful for my research.

The English language North Korean book I mentioned above is "History of the Korean People"s Just Fatherland Liberation War" by the DPRK Science Academy History Research Division.

Thanks for sharing. I played it, however, soon after takeoff I noticed that the 3 wingmen eject from their planes and don't make it to the rest of the mission. :(

I have the same experience. The wingmen's engines seem to fail shortly after takeoff.

Now I noticed this too. It's probably caused by the latest update. Will send the mission to the devs for testing.

Also happens in task editor missions, so it's not limited to my mission. Very annoying, I can't continue work on my campaign until this is fixed.:classic_sad:

While mission building is on hold, I've used the time to test some other stuff.

According to No Kum-sok's book, it was mandatory for every North Korean pilot to have this photo in his cockpit.

Thanks for the first single player mission.

I have looked in file structure and Skin folder for planes is all I see. Is that where the pic goes to get pic in cockpit? GB uses the texture folder if I remember correctly.

The screenshot is from GB. No cockpit photos for Korea yet.

Ok thanks. I have been trying to see if I can get to work by making the file structure and file name like GB no luck. Maybe when the full release comes out in August or I can hope in near future.

Oh, hey Juri, I've flown almost all of your campaigns. Great that you've taken on the IL-2 Korea. Maybe something for the F-51D as well?

A South Korean or South African F-51 campaign could be interesting, but so far I haven't found much information on these units.
