Hi folks,

In an effort to consolidate some information for Linux users I thought I'd put together a sort of mega-thread for running IL-2 Korea on Linux for those of us that are keen to try and get it working.

Couple of quick bullet points:

1. This is not a Linux title / the IL-2 devs likely cannot fix these issues for us -- most of the issues stem from 3rd party Linux tools missing features or not having implemented features we need for IL-2 Korea. The game is unsupported on linux and if we can get it running that's just a bonus.

2. The game is in a playable state. Some minor workarounds are required to run it though.

3. With enough useful bug reports (with logs) the right people might be able to step in and help get things running smoothly for us -- many other custom-engine titles recently run really well under Proton. If you see odd graphics issues/artifacts or crashes, please report it here - https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/9906

With that out of the way, here are the current issues we're seeing and some resources to track accordingly. I am not a Linux guru, I'm just a user, so if you see bad information here, please correct it or let me know and I'll clean up the list.

Issues / Workarounds

Hanging logins - This doesn't seem to be effecting everyone, I'm not impacted and at least one other person on the github issues page said they weren't either and logged in normally.

Resources / Links

Current Linux install guide is attached (will be updated as time goes on / new workarounds are discovered)

Proton Github Issues page for IL-2 Korea - https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/9906 . If you can, follow the templates and provide logs if you see a new issue. It will help developers dig into the root cause and fix accordingly. It will also help other keeners nail down which component has issues.

vk3d-proton github issue for the texture issue only : https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton/issues/3134

ProtonDB for IL-2 Korea - https://www.protondb.com/app/247970

HOTAS being detected as an Xbox controller in Linux? -- Look into building rules to allow them to register as HID-RAW devices; info/howto here: https://blog.jamesthebard.net/posts/microsoft-flight-simulator/

Fixed Issues

GetNumaNodeProcessorMaskEx() Crash on launch - This is a Wine limitation; and you can add this to your launch parameters to fix it - "OMP_NUM_THREADS=% KMP_AFFINITY=disabled %command%" (set % to your threadcount). This has been fixed in a recent version of wine/proton-experimental should include it automatically.

Shadows glitching in menu - known / suspected VK3D / mesa or proton thing. Fixed in Mesa 26.2.1/26.1.8+

Ground textures not loading correctly - known / suspected VK3D / mesa or proton thing.  This has been FIXED thanks to silv3rshi3ld . Use proton-experimental (bleeding edge for now, this should be in the main proton-experimental by end of august)

As far as the login issue goes. The first time I tried installing I couldn't type in the boxes. However typing your information into a different source (such as a text file or browser bar) and then copying and pasting I was able to do so. Incidentally this may be related to another problem. When starting a mission I couldn't press P on the keyboard to unpause.  alt tabbing out and back into the game solved this as well.

Flickering shadows/light bug was also fixed in a recent version of MESA drivers.
