Dash,Polder Posted yesterday at 01:24 PM Posted yesterday at 01:24 PM In the F-51 the cage button sends me between two different gyro modes, rockets and guns, the rocket gyro mode is very easily tumbled by any maneuvering, it can be restabilized quick by selecting guns mode with the cage button, than going back. The really useful thing about the rocket gyro is correcting for slip, if you can get the rocket gyro in vertical alignment with the + on the fixed sight your rocket will fire a stable and true as can be path to target. Any slip and these rockets with their big stabilizing fins on the aft end will counteract the slip upon launch by wobbling against it, inducing a slight course change. A horizontal alignment isn't needed from the gyro, aim with the fixed + for horizontal, figure out the depression required for your favorite dive angle and speed, consistency in approach is needed to keep stable and trimmed. https://calculator.academy/distance-to-angle-calculator/ I use about 20 degree dives starting at about 4000 feet, this calc gives you a good idea the distance you need. Plenty of time to get everything stable and set. You can't use rudder for final fine corrections or the shot is gone, aileron is better. Always attack into the wind, you don't want drift, hard to correct with no rudder.
