We Need a PDF Manual for Print.

I think, that we need a pdfs manual, at least cockpit detail. The only ingame manual is a problem for learn to fly a complex sim ;-(

I have just started playing with the sim.  One thing I cannot find is a map key.  I second the motion for a comprehensive manual that covers more than just cockpit things--there is a LOT of complexity in this beautiful sim, and some kind of complete guide is really important!

The Map comes up in the HUD and you can switch the map range by pressing "M". For a fullscreen map just use "N".

Is it possible to get a map with the HUD turned off?

Have a look here "...\IL-2 Series\game\Doc\Input Maps"

There is a _Keyboard.png where You can see the default mappings.

Maybe customizing the HUD would be an approach.

You can cycle the HUD through its three presets and off using the R Alt + H key command.

I did a first simple test in GIMP for inverting the colours of some of the Input Maps. It makes the images more printer-friendly. But at the same time I would like those provided images to be without any background image.

The uploaded image is just a teaser of what is possible downsized by 50% from the original file. (I wasn't able to upload a file with the original 100% file size.) As @Lemmi and @MajorMagee said, the image files are already existing in your installation folder provided by the devs. But these images have a printer-unfriendly dark background.

All you need to change it yourself in order to get it like I showed above is downloading an image manipulation tool. I am using GIMP because it is a well-established open-source tool (i.e. free download). Open the image file in GIMP, navigate to the colours menu, and select the "Invert" option (IIRC). After that you need to export the image as *.jpeg, *.png, or any other file format you like. Just saving it in GIMP will store the image as an *.xcf file (wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XCF_(file_format) ) which is GIMP's native format for storing any meta-information, and that's not what you were looking for.
