Kubert Posted June 20 Posted June 20 It's just me, or I-16 is more stable on landing approach without landing flaps? In my begginings with I-16 I was using flaps and my landings were all over the place, bumpy, near stall, or my plane started to climb instead of "sitting down". Then I saw this video: Three pilots on an air show landed their I-16s without flaps. I tried this in a game and all my landings without flaps were much better than before. Still little bumby (very similar to this video) but completely under control. Since then I am not using flaps when landing I-16. What was standard landing procedure of I-16 in World War II? 1
MDzmitry Posted June 20 Posted June 20 Here on pages 16-17 (http://i16fighter.aviaskins.com/materials/documents/i16_m25_book1.pdf) a process is described for landing I-16 with M-25. If we ignore some parts being crossed out with a pencil, I-16's "ailerons lowering" (earlier versions' analog of standard flaps) should only be used during "poor approaches" or when landing at smaller/shorter airfields. It is also noted that I-16 with ailerons lowered becomes less stable. 3
Kubert Posted June 20 Author Posted June 20 (edited) Interesting. This game never stops to surprise with it's details. Still learning something new after all this time. Thanks for the info. Case closed then I suppose. Edited June 20 by Kubert
FeuerFliegen Posted June 20 Posted June 20 Very interesting! I will have to try landing without flaps and see how it does. I'll probably try with them at 50% too I see that last guy had his canopy door open during flight; and it didn't rip off! 1
