tattywelshie Posted June 18 Posted June 18 So...I've started yet another new career, but this time with probably my most favourite aircraft...the 110! I've 'survived' 4 missions so far over Leningrad...but my god, it's been stressful! 3 out of the 4 missions I've finished with at least 1 engine dying on me due to damage. My next mission is filling me with dread...a bomber escort mission! Any tips on the 110? I've read that gaining plenty of height and diving on the enemy is effective, and not to become embroiled in dogfights. But just wondered if anyone had any tips on helping me actually not just survive, but do some actual damage to the enemy!
Aapje Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Boom and Zoom. Extend away after an attack (attempt). Do not engage without an energy advantage, but flee or rebuild the energy. In theory you can out-turn many enemies and early on and take them down quickly, but the 110 loses speed fast while turning and the sustained rates are not great. So this is very risky and you need to win quickly and then there should not be any other enemies to take advantage of your slow speed.
Snowball Posted June 20 Posted June 20 Which version? The E flys like a fat chiken, I personally hate it. The G is decently fast, problem is it's still dead meat against single engine fighters. Also the in-line engines are prone to damage as you already noted. The fw-190's radial engine is more suitable for ground attack role imo because it can take much more punishment, so the 110 it's not even ideal for that, it can take more weapons but the engines are vulnerable. Yep, not a fan. So my tip is swith to the 109 lol, the 110 is totally unsuitable for escorts missions
sandmarken Posted June 21 Posted June 21 (edited) Woud be interesting to have a 110e with the better engine or a 110F to se how it fares against the early soviets! The one we have now is pretty slow. And the later G version is pretty good ! Edited June 21 by sandmarken 1 1
taffy2 Posted June 21 Posted June 21 An excellent introduction to the Bf 110 is the 16 mission campaign " Fire and Ice " you fly the Bf110 E-2 version which is a test of your flying skills because the weather conditions are bloody awful, but I found it immersive but as others have said don't be in to much of a hurry to get into dogfights although saying that I did manage to down a few !! PS Which part of Wales are you from !

One of the greatest satisfactions for me is limping the old beast home in some shockingly bad states, full of holes and down to one engine. Especially in MP, but if you've a crack shot fighter determined to follow you back for as long as it takes to kill you.. well you're a sitting duck. As was in real life I guess, unless your rear gunner is still alive and in the mood to live a little longer. Sadly in-game, the old boy in the back rarely comes up trumps.
