PaperPilot Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Hi all, I was just wondering a few things about the return to the Eastern Front under the new IL-2 Series title. 1. Should we expect Eastern Front modules to come immediately after they are done with the PTO, or want to have a break from developing PTO modules? 2. What parts of the Eastern Front will they likely cover? Should we expect remakes of old titles like Battle of Stalingrad, or Moscow, Kuban and Siege and Liberation? Or will we more likely see moduels concerning the Battle of Kursk, Operation Bagration, or the Fall of Berlin? 3. Should we expect a remake of Leningrad/Karelia to recreate the success of the old days of IL-2 where the Continuation war servers were very busy? 4. What title should we expect them to start off with? A remade Stalingrad like last time? Or Somewhere closer to the end of the war where the aircraft technologies are more similar to the Soviet planes we are going to have in Korea? 5. Also, if they were to do a remake of Stalingrad, could they make a much bigger map this time that includes the entire Caucasus campaign to include Kuban among other battles? Thank you for your time. 1
kraut1 Posted June 5 Posted June 5 My personal point of view: Because the creation of new high quality maps is time consuming and expensive, please have the focus on WW2 eastern front maps, that are suitable for a big time frame: Just one example: In this respect Leningrad / Karelia is great, suitable for Summer 1941 to Summer 1944! 1
Aapje Posted June 5 Posted June 5 1. I personally expect a very eye-catching module for the return to Europe, to really draw in the players who are not interested in Korea and the Pacific. Something like the Battle of Britain. With the resurgence of flight sims in the West, the importance of that market has grown. Another factor that makes the western consumer more valuable is the gradually worsening exchange rate of the ruble over the last decade. 2. I definitely don't expect remakes unless they run out of viable new alternatives. Otherwise the GB modules will significantly reduce the sales for the remakes. 1

The Battle of Britain would make a lot of sense to do, firstly being an iconic battle mostly confined to air warfare; secondly because of the scale of the battle; and thirdly because we are almost coming up 90 years since the Battle of Britain.

I think a remake of the Stalingrad map would make a lot of sense too for several reasons: firstly because it was the ultimate turning point of the war on the Eastern Front and every generation of IL-2 needs to carry the memory of this important battle; secondly because it was a massive battle in terms of casualties and for being lengthy; thirdly there were a lot of planes used on both sides; and fourthly they have a lot of information on the battle in terms of air and ground units and their positions. There are probably more valid reasons that I cannot think of with my tired brain right now.
Avimimus Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Interesting questions and well organised. But it is too early to discuss this - so I'll be locking this thread for now. 1 2
