ilmavoimat Posted May 29 Posted May 29 (edited) So after not being able to start the game since January as it "failed to update" and trying everything suggested by support and uninstalling and reinstalling three times as a last attempt I reinstalled on a different drive. Wonder of wonders it worked! It ran perfectly I remapped some of the keystrokes to personal settings and finally got to have a look at Finland. Try to start the game twelve hours later................."failed to update!!" 🥵🥵 Does anybody have any suggestions as to what the problem is. I cannot understand how the game can run perfectly one day then not boot up twelve hours later for no discernible reason. I've spent over $1000 on BoX in the last ten years and now I've really had enough with trying to sort this. Back to Rise of Flight if there's no solution. ticket 12320 Game issues ilmavoimat Jan. 20, 2026, 2:23 p.m. Hi all. Not run Il-2 for a couple of weeks, just tried to start it and got "failed to update", I've removed the contents of the updates folder and still no joy. Is anyone else having trouble or is the server glitching today? Any help welcomed as I'm not that tech savvy! last_update.log IL-2 Support Jan. 21, 2026, 3:26 a.m. Greetings! Please try deleting the "update" folder and try updating the game again. ilmavoimat Jan. 21, 2026, 10:26 a.m. Hi there. I've deleted the updates folder repeatedly and tried launching the game again repeatedly,no joy. The updates folder reappears each time but still getting "failed to update" on the launch screen.Have attached latest update file. last_update.log IL-2 Support Jan. 22, 2026, 5:12 a.m. Greetings! Please try changing the DNS server in the adapter settings. Here is a list of addresses to try first: 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4 1.1.1.1 If you have any questions, write, I will send detailed instructions. ilmavoimat Feb. 12, 2026, 2:42 p.m. Hi there. I've uninstalled IL-2 BoX and reinstalled and still am unable to update. I've tried resetting the DNS server with the 3 alternatives addresses but still no joy. Any help much appreciated. ilmavoimat Feb. 12, 2026, 2:44 p.m. Forgot to attach the latest update file. last_update.log IL-2 Support Feb. 12, 2026, 4:09 p.m. Thanks for the feedback. Please specify, are you connected to the Internet directly or via Wi-Fi? ilmavoimat Feb. 19, 2026, 5:09 p.m. Hi there, My internet connection is direct via a BT router. This has me baffled. I've tried your suggestions and no joy although I can connect to Rise of Flight, DCS, Cliffs of Dover, Sea Power etc. fine I also cannot connect to my Steam home page. (My Il-2 is stand alone not Steam, I purchased it all direct). IL-2 Support Feb. 20, 2026, 9:23 a.m. Greetings! Thank you for the feedback. Please try restarting the router and check this situation. ilmavoimat Feb. 22, 2026, 5:49 p.m. I've tried restarting the router, still no joy. Very baffled now! IL-2 Support Feb. 23, 2026, 9:29 a.m. Greetings! Thanks for the feedback. Please try to reinstall the game completely. ilmavoimat March 8, 2026, 12:25 a.m. Hi there. Yes, I reinstalled it on 12th Feb and tried all the other suggestions, manually entering the DNS server etc, restarting the router. No joy and no idea what else I can do to rectify. Having spent well over $1000 on Il-2 since June 2015 you can understand my frustration. ilmavoimat March 8, 2026, 12:34 a.m. Reinstalled again, same result , failed to update. I have no idea now how to proceed. IL-2 Support March 9, 2026, 9:45 a.m. Greetings! Thanks for the feedback. Please specify, do you use a VPN? ilmavoimat March 9, 2026, 9:37 p.m. No, I don't use a VPN. I used a BT internet hub on a standard UK internet connection. The game has run stably since installation in June 2016 with one glitch. I had to reinstall only once when I had the same "failed to update" issue when the DLC including the AR234 was published. I have no idea why this problem has occurred, up until now I have played online and offline at least every other day with no issues. I have tried all the given suggestions for remedy and have run out of ideas. IL-2 Support March 10, 2026, 9:42 a.m. Greetings! Thanks for the feedback. Please specify which antivirus you have installed? ilmavoimat March 10, 2026, 11 p.m. Hi there, The anti virus is Kaspersky 21.3.10.391(m). It's been installed for ten years with all the regular updates. No problems thus far. IL-2 Support March 11, 2026, 9:38 a.m. Greetings! Thanks for the feedback. Please try to disable the antivirus completely and check the correctness of the game. Edited May 29 by ilmavoimat
Dora Posted May 29 Posted May 29 I had the similar issues when I was running Kaspersky. Files refusing to update, files refusing to uninstall.... Using stock Windows Defender on my new computer has been a revelation In any case, have you put in an exclusion in Kaspersky for the Il-2 folder? And when I still used Kaspersky (until 2023), the program was impossible to completely switch off...
AEthelraedUnraed Posted May 29 Posted May 29 I concur that antivirus software is often the source of similar network issues. Some antivirus programs introduce a virtual network adapter of their own in order to analyse and block any and all traffic going to and from the computer, which might cause any amount of issues. 2 hours ago, ilmavoimat said: IL-2 Support March 11, 2026, 9:38 a.m. Greetings! Did you uninstall the antivirus (as said by Dora, temporarily switching it off might not be enough)? What were the results?

I did disable it and no change so I'll try uninstalling it. What I can't understand though is why Il-2 BoX has run perfectly for 10 years with the same Kaspersky AV with only one reinstall six years ago, it now, all of a sudden won't update. I reinstalled yesterday it ran fine I tried to start the game ten hours later and it failed to update.

After reinstalling, if it still doesn't work you should again check the adapter settings as suggested by the support team. I've seen it happen that these "antivirus" programs completely mess up your internet settings. Most of them are little short of malware themselves, if you ask me.
ilmavoimat Posted May 30 Author Posted May 30 I did change the adapter settings, and tried all the other suggestions, and re-installed three times and still got "failed to update. As I say I can't understand why it worked fine after a reinstall on another drive yesterday and ten hours later failed to update again. Nothing changed, I didn't even switch the PC off. After six months of trying I've run out of fixes.

Just to confirm, since I see I accidentally said reinstall instead of uninstall; did you, in order, uninstall Kaspersky, reboot, check your adapter settings, and try IL2 without any active virus scanner?
Dora Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Also, is your second hard drive partitionable? I was thinking of creating a clean second Windows installaton on your second disk, choose that disk on PC boot-up and install Il-2 BoX there just to make sure the perhaps uninstallable kernel stuff of Kaspersky wont fiddle with your installation.
ilmavoimat Posted June 1 Author Posted June 1 (edited) I'll try that. Cheers. I just don't get how I can do a reinstall and it runs ok then ten hours later it doesn't. Edited June 1 by ilmavoimat

Something must have changed in your network configuration. I worked at an IT department for a couple of years, where I've seen something similar twice. Both times, the cause of the issue was Kapersky (which the employees had installed against regulations) which had done some very strange network stuff. Hence my prior advice to completely uninstall it, and afterwards check your network adapters: There should only be as much adapters as you have physical ones (or can explain). In the adapter properties, make sure at least the IPv4 settings are correct for your configuration. Unless you have good reasons to do otherwise, everything should be on "automatic", and in the advanced settings no DNS addresses, DNS suffixes or manual gateways should be configured. Using a clean Windows installation as advised by Dora is a good idea, even if just for testing purposes. I expect you won't run into any problems then, but it's always good to confirm. Let us know how it goes!
ilmavoimat Posted June 2 Author Posted June 2 Thanks for the help. I'll consult my computer guru mate tomorrow and see if we can sort it.
