Hi all, I am happy to release,

Pingu's Jungle Hawks- Battle of Kokoda v1.0A dynamic PWCG Kokoda Campaign Overhaul for Il2: Battle of Kuban (RAAF / USAAF / IJNAF) - Heavily WIP v1.0 Release

A heavily modified PWCG setup focused entirely on the Kokoda Campaign and early New Guinea fighting.

A “Pacific skin” and full campaign overhaul built around the atmosphere and operational reality of PNG in 1942-43. The goal was to push PWCG away from the usual European-style air war and into something slower, rougher, and far more infantry-focused.

- The Historical Setting -

Virtual War Memorial

In 1942, the war came to Australia’s doorstep. As Japanese forces pushed across the Pacific, Papua and the Kokoda Track became the scene of one of the most brutal campaigns in Australian military history. Fighting took place not across open deserts or European farmland, but through mountains, mud, jungle, disease, exhaustion, and near-total isolation.

Young Australian militia soldiers, many barely trained, were thrown into a fighting retreat along the Kokoda Track against experienced Japanese troops advancing toward Port Moresby. Supply lines collapsed into single-file jungle trails. Aircraft became lifelines. Ammunition, food, medical supplies, and reinforcements all depended on aircraft struggling through weather, mountains, and primitive airstrips carved out of the jungle.

For Australia, Kokoda became more than a battle. It became part of national folklore. A campaign remembered for the dog willed endurance of average Australian men agaisnt the premire jungle fighters of Imperial Japan, the South Seas Detachment. Exhausted Australian infantry and airmen held, for the first time in the war, the IJA's advance, stopping their bid for Port Morseby and marking a major turning point in the wider pacific theatre.

The RAAF’s role in New Guinea is often overshadowed by Europe, but the air war over Papua was relentless. Fighter sweeps, hazardous transport flights, low-level strafing attacks, reconnaissance over jungle camps and CAS strikes on Japanese shipping. I have done my best to cpature the scope of the RAAF and USAAF's actions in PNG within Il2's birttle
frame.

Only 3 active services:

RAAF
USAAF

IJNAF/IJAAF

  • Kuban map repurposed into a New Guinea theatre

  • jungle overhaul across the map

  • Japanese assets and environmental replacements

  • British Assets replace USSR across allied sid

  • Historical squadron assignments and rotations

  • Custom aircraft configs/properties to better represent Japanese counterparts

Mission generation has also been heavily adjusted toward:

  • infantry support

  • supply operations

  • recon

  • low-level strikes

  • isolated forward operations

The campaign vibe ends up very different from stock PWCG. You spend a lot less time feeling like a Luftwaffe ace farm and a lot more time flying exhausted aircraft through mountains and jungle trying to keep ground troops alive.

Still very much work in progress, but it’s becoming surprisingly immersive already.

--------------------Part B - PWCG Custom Installer -------------

YOU ONLY NEED TO DO ONE OF THE TWO METHODS HERE

Option 1B - Download and install “Drag and Drop PWCG - Kokoda” by dragging zip contents into your main game directory like below.

Option 2B - Alternatively use the installer_PWCG - Kokoda_setup.zip  if issues with this method…. Need to Drop the railroad.ini here if using the gui installer - PWCG_Kokoda\BoSData\Input\Kuban
(My installer is bad and missed a file lol)

BOTH METHODS NOW - >

B2 - Run via the .bat file shown above and preform skin analysis, if all checks out you are good to go, the mod is installed and PWCG is ready to use. If you have issues ensure your file path looks like this, and try alt method.
