Where are my Flight Recordings stored?

Are the Recordings stored in the game; a feature of the game itself?

Or, if it's a file in my computer: which one, please?

Thank you.

The 'recordings' are stored within the game under;

C:\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\Tracks

Be aware the game makes no recordings in the conventional sense.  It creates .trk files (or .ntrk for multiplayer) which are basically a series of digital coordinates from which the game reconstructs your flight through the flight recordings menu.

Just to be clear; the "C:\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad" part is your installation directory and depends on what you chose during the installation process. If you use Steam, it'll be in your Steam folder: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\Tracks".

Thank you, Gentlemen.

So, I'm wondering if the accessibility of IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad in my C-drive listings mean that my flight recordings are being stored in my computer, so the more I accumulate, the less remaining gigs I have?

If I go to that folder, find the files, and delete them: will that increase the available space on my C-drive?  Like emptying the Recycling Bin does?

Or, is it that, because the recordings are digitally stored in the game, they don't affect how much space I have left?

I'm guessing it's the latter.  Am I right? 🙂

The recording files do use the harddrive space of your computer. You can delete the files to free up space.

There are ways (like data bases or archives ) to store multiple files inside one file. There are technical advantages and disadvantages for doing it eiher way, but data always takes up space, no matter how it is stored.

There is an option in the IL-2 ingame menu to delete recordings. It might be better to use that function because I think one recording consists of multiple files.

If you delete files by hand and miss something, maybe you only partly delete recordings.

Thanks Gutholz.  I was afraid of that.

Years ago, I found the file we've all been speaking of and deleted a lot of the two-part files.  I just forgot the details of where it was.

It seems to me the two- part files came out separated by types, and finding the two that matched to make one recording was difficult.  That was on our previous computer and I couldn't remember if it had an effect on the available space or not.  Thanks for clearing that up for me.

For me, deleting the recordings at the in-game menu is a single-shot activity.  I can only delete one at a time, it takes a LOT of time, and every four or five deletions, the game freezes and I have to shut down and restart to continue.

I tried to save a batch on our earlier computer and it was almost impossible to get past that two-part thing.  I have some really cool flights I'd rather not lose, but my drive is about maxed-out and I sort of have to.  But that batch I saved earlier eventually disappeared from the thumb-drive we saved it to, so I'm not confident about doing that again.

Q: is there any way to mass-purge the in-game recordings in the game; not from my C-drive?

I ask because, if it can only be done one-at-a-time , I might be buying a new computer soon.  😎

FOLLOW UP: Of the two examples presented above: the longer URL works, but takes us to a collection of only 16 mixed events (dogfights, free flights, and skirmishes) that were recorded  back in 2023.  I actually have hundreds of recordings of all types dating to last night; but, they don't show up at this address.

I have both the Developer and Steam versions of BOS and GB.  Saved recordings in the Dev version were even fewer.

I've been deleting individual flights online, but it takes a long time.  And then, I can only delete a half-dozen or so before the game freezes and I have to do the three fingered salute to restart.

Looks like this is the only option.  Not complaining; just documenting for posterity. 😎

I guess I'm done here.  The slow process of manual deletion from my steam account will continue as priorities permit.  Thanks to all who contributed top this thread.  🙂👍
