How to move Il-2 GB to the new "Korea" rig

Hello gentleman !

Please, a bit of help.

Finally, my new rig , Korea-bound, will arrive tomorrow. It's not the rocket-in-the-pocket i was dreaming about (9800x3d dreams 🙂 ) but it's enough : build around a  9070xt and  a 9700x. Coudn't afford higher. Couldn't build it myself, since i bought it with tax deduction (has to be pre-build for this, but i get 20% off taxes, so...)

Sooo excited. You can't imagine how difficult it was to obtain the "wife approval stamp" 🙂

Anyhow: To run good old Great Battles on the new PC, but not loose all my setup, key bindings, tons of scripted campaigns and such:

is it ok to fresh install lI-2 GB on the new rig and copy-paste the "data" folder from the old one ?

Or i have to copy - paste some other folder/files ?

Thank you so much guys !

Yes that'll work.

Congrats in the new rig! Should fit nicely in the sim closet 🙂

9070xt should also be able to give you a really decent VR experience- you should give it a try.

as far as moving great battles you may be able to install then copy over your data folder. I would probably just move the ssd from my old computer into the new rig.

I switched PC in August and only thing I copy pasted was TrackIR profile. I prefer as clean new installation as possible. :classic_rolleyes:

Yes, it does. Size was actually something to consider. Aquarium case was not a option.

The old rig is tuned, overclocked and overcooled! My older son will get it. So the old ssd, goes there.

Both profile from trackir folder and profile from.....users/name/natural point/trackir.....

Only from users/(pc name)/AppData/Roaming/NaturalPoint/TrackIR 5/Profiles

I checked TrackIR folder in Program Files, but it seems only default ones are stored here. My custom profiles are only in that above.

I would still suggest going through the rig and checking for build errors. Prebuild builders have a reputation either for making mistakes, or for things to go wrong in shipping.

You don't even have to do that if you use the non-Steam version, as the entire game is self-contained and doesn't use the Windows registry or such. Then you can just copy the entire game folder to the new PC and then add shortcuts to the game and the launcher to your desktop.

With Steam, it should work by copying the data-folder.

definitely that. have to check also that what i've bought is what i've got. 🙂

thank you.

also bought 2 extra fans, for front imput, since it's lacking: the AIO takes air out, rear fan out, but none in front.

afterwards, before drivers, it's my secret pleasure: PBO..... 🙂

Or should i do that after driver install? as to check what ryzen master says about undervolting, how much? on my old 5700G i managed - 22 on all cores, no errors, stable for past 2 month

I don't know how it is with an AMD gpu, but I would look into overclocking the gpu. I am able to get about 30 percent more performance out of my 5070ti.

before Luke  (Skywalker? FF ? 🙂 ) kills us in one powerfull blow, for obivious off-topic ..... topics 🙂 ,  i can tell you that AMD GPU is already overclocked a bit (more) from factory in order to keep up with the GeForce. I got a XFX Mercury 9070xt version, actually that i was hunting all along.

the XFX Merc is better suited for overclocking, btw

I grab the downloader first from the site, initialize it so all the registry entries, folders and hooks get installed.  Than when it fires up the launcher to download the main package, kill it and at that point empty the folder and paste in the original from the old machine.  Can save on issues with many games.

I've not done a full rebuild in years, replace parts bit by bit except the past 2 CPU changes which entailed full Windows reinstall. The game folder remained on a non-OS drive and once Windows was all setup just created a new desktop shortcut.

When I installed a NVMe drive, just copied the whole game folder to it and created a new sshortcut.

Recently did a new install just to make sure there weren't any residual gremlins from the years of moving the same game folder around. Copied over the skins folder, the input folder, and the career folder after running the installer and letting the whole game download. Didn't see any difference as far as game stability or performance so looks like it was a waste of time.

There are no registry keys with IL2 GBS. I have been copying IL2 GBS and creating new short cuts on desktop to new computer builds ever since it's beggining and never once had a problem. The problems most incur most likely come from extensive 'mod' use over the years. see FuruousMeow's post before mine, this correct info.

All the parts are as intended and fine, but the wiring is....madness. probably munchies business. A fan wasn't working because.....wasn't plugged in.

Will get a sata-powered hub tomorrow and redo the job. Without extra cooling, the rig goes hot like hell, the 9700x is 25 degrees hotter than the 5700g, despite AIO, capped at 65w and all undervolting and stuff. Some say it's normal ????

At least the xfx mercury is a beauty, cool and noisy. I like them this way 😉
