GenMarkof007 Posted May 18 Posted May 18 Hi all, I'm trying to edit my IL-2 mission in multiple languages so I can have the Mission Name and Mission Description available in: English (default) French Spanish German The goal is that when a player starts or joins the mission (event), they will automatically see the text in the language selected in their IL-2 Sturmovik settings/game. After reviewing page 49 of the Mission Editor and Multiplayer Server Manual by JimTM and selecting a first language (e.g., Spanish) in the Editor, I'm still unsure whether I need to go back into the Tools menu, select Localization, and re-select Default (English) before saving the mission. I also noticed that I can open each language mission file with Notepad and edit it directly. Would that work correctly, or does everything need to be edited and saved from inside the IL-2 Mission Editor? If you have never done this yourself, please don't reply with guesses or assumptions about what might work. I'm specifically looking for feedback from IL-2 mission creators who have already used localization in their missions or campaigns. Big thanks for any reply! Cheers, GenMarkof007
JG4_Deciman Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Hi I prefer translating in the language files directly (text editor) Deci 2
LuftManu Posted May 19 Posted May 19 I save the mission after selecting and edting another languages, as this saves the changes on the spa / de... etc files from each language. But you can also modify the text files directly as Deciman said. Both options work correctly. 1 Rig: RTX 5090 Astral 32 GB / Ryzen 9850 X3D /Gigabyte X870E Pro X3D Motherboard / 48 GB DDR5 Teamgroup 8000 MT/s / MSI 321 URX QD-OLED 32" 4K

After that, I changed my game Settings to French (restarted my game). When I opened the mission in-game (intern and not with DServer), the mission name displayed HTML code/tags, and the same happened with the description (not showing the complete description). Do I need to delete anything in the DATA folder so that the information displays correctly? Also, should I only edit the mission name and mission description, and leave the other translated (translators) entries unchanged? LuftManu, when I open my default language (EN) file and then use Select Localization to translate the SPA mission file, and if I save my mission that way, my mission description defaults to Spanish. Also, it seems to cut part of my description, and I lose text inside the translators. This is why I’m trying to understand the process better. After translating a language, do I need to go back into Select Localization, switch back to the default EN, and then do a Save As of the default mission EN? Thanks for taking the time to clarify whether there are extra steps required while making these changes. Cheers, GenMarkof007 ---- Update: I noticed that if I pass my text through an HTML converter/app, many accented characters get converted into HTML entities/tags. Do translated texts in other languages that use accents need to be converted into HTML format, or should they remain as normal characters? Edited May 19 by GenMarkof007
JG4_Deciman Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Hi For me it works with the following actions... Create Mission as usual (languade set to 'english' for me as default, even if I'm from germany) Save the mission after editing Rename all 'language files' except the one with the 'default' language (in my case english) Copy the 'default' language file for every language existing and rename it according to the 'wanted' language. That should give you the 'default' file transported into every language. Next I oben the languages files I want to (or can) translate with a text editor And I do strongly recommend NOT to use windows 'basic' tools like 'Word' or 'Notepad'! I'm working with 'Jens File Editor' (even if it is really outdated!!!) since years without problems. Just open the language file and edit the lines for translation the 'html' tags had been entered by me in the 'default' language file. So I only need to translate (if I can and want) If I do not want (or can not) translate the file is unchanged (but contains my original text) After changing all language files: Reopen the mission with the mission editor and save it (updating all files and generating new checksums for the '.list' file) Thats ist... GenMarkof007 Posted May 19 Author Posted May 19 (edited) S! @JG4_Deciman Super, I did try one language (French), and it seems to be working. Quick question: do you know if I can have a line break with 'Jens File Editor. Some of the long texts are not easy to edit. Big thanks again! Cheers, GenMarkof007 Edited May 19 by GenMarkof007 1
LuftManu Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Oh that sounds great too @JG4_Deciman! Will also take notes as I was using the normal editor. @GenMarkof007as for text in the editor, I use chatgpt to correct any errors and adapt format. I remember I had an issue with German translation and it added and extra space, breaking the line like yours. My way of work is: Editing everything in English and save. Then, I change to SPA localization and paste the adapted text and icons, and save. Then move to French or German and save. So far so good with Paralell 38! And also, thank you very much for adding a few languages into missions! English is great but if people see their native language on a mission it also feels better! THANK YOU! 1 Rig: RTX 5090 Astral 32 GB / Ryzen 9850 X3D /Gigabyte X870E Pro X3D Motherboard / 48 GB DDR5 Teamgroup 8000 MT/s / MSI 321 URX QD-OLED 32" 4K

S! @LuftManu Thanks for the reply. Also, it’s my pleasure to add other languages. For now, I’ll concentrate on the mission name and mission description (EN, FR, SPA, DE). Maybe in the future I’ll also add the translated (translators) entries, but right now my timeline is a bit short when creating the AAS-SCG PvP events. Cheers, GenMarkof007 1

Go to 'settings' -'Line wrapping...' Uncheck 'Disable automatic wraping' Enter the column you want in 'Wrap in column' You can also check 'Wrap only between words' You should NOT check 'Save intended line wraps' Deci 2
