I Have A Question. Or, Maybe A Complaint. Who Knows? I'm Old.

OK, I have just reinstalled Rise of Flight.  Now, before anyone asks why ( no one was going to ; that was rhetorical, y'see ) it's because FLying Circus has made me mad.  I'm old ; I don't get curious anymore, I get mad. But, bear with. You're not interested in my personal idiosyncrosies.

I love Great Battles.  It's my personal milieu, WW2 single engine fighters. No bombers, no jets!!  I know, Me262--I also don't fly German. Love the career mode. Hate the AI. I also fly Cliffs of Dover, and love it--but hate the AI. Luckily, Team Fusion seems to be doing some work in the regard. I helped briefly test some missions and, yes, the AI was somewhat improved. But, off my topic a bit.

I bought all the DLC's for Great Battles ( via Steam ), though I will give Korea a pass ( again--no jets ).  INcluding all 4 Flying Circus DLC's.  I keep seeing that there is a Pilot Career for Flying Circus.  Now, once in a while I enjoy flying the WW1 planes, and I was looking forward to starting a WW1 career.  Except: wait. It isn't there?  Single missions, yep.  Campaigns--yep.  Career? Nope. Only allows me to create a new pilot in WW2 scenarios.

So, unless someone knows the magical formula for starting a Flying Circus career, I will look to Rise of Flight. Which has one. And, for the most part, is the same sim as FC, just, no longer supported nor in development.  FIne by me. I have zero interest in VR, and can no longer fly online ( did so a lot, many long years ago, including the early days of IL2 ). I am limited by physical disabilities and diminished eyesight and as if that weren't enough I developed severe vertigo a few years back.  Nature seems to want to keep me around as it is having way too much fun messing with me.  So, I do depend heavily on anything that makes my flying easier: autopilot, computer-controlled engine management, maps, technical hints on the screen ( though I can't read 90% of them ). I am limited to only 5, 10 minutes in my improvised cockpit, so, Autopilot is my friend.  Good Old Otto.  Can't dogfight for beans, though.

Anyway, enough about me.  HI All, BTW.  And thanks for any help anyone can offer.  Also, as a aside -- the Lewis gun on the S.E.5 ; I know how to select it, but, how in the bloody heck do you AIM it?  Even Otto grabs it and just starts shooting in the air--when there's no one above me!! And I can't even move it.  So, again, any wizards out there with the magic formula for that while I'm at it?

Thanks for reading if you made it this far. Hope someone can help. <S>

Hello

I think the upper gun on the SE5 can not be aimed, it is fixed. You can only switch it between two positions: forward or upwards (I think default keys are:shift+c)

Look upward and aim with the airplane. Also if you aim the Lewis upwards then it is useful to set buttons to fire the lower / upper gun seperately.

Age is just a number but only young and middle aged people with no idea say that. They're in for a surprise. 🙂

Click on career in the main menu and follow the arrows as depicted in below image.

As for the Se5a, if you have head tracking, you can contort your body to such an extent that aiming the Lewis is possible when in the upright position. I can't remember the key combination to raise the gun but try Gutholz's suggestion.

Thank you both for your replies, I am grateful!!

For Catch:  Unfortunately, your graphic illustrates my problem.  I only get Russian theaters when I click on Career.  I think what it is doing is, when I click on Career, it takes me directly to the Pilots screen--where I already have 4 careers going in the Russian theater.

Maybe it has to do with a Setting---I am not sure, as I have limited time to fly when I get there, so I don't spend a lot of time investigating anything else.  Perhaps that is what I am doing wrong.  I was hoping all I had to do was 'Create a New Pilot' and it would give me theater choices that included 1916-1918, but it doesn't. It simply gives me the Russian theaters.  Hmmmm---I will give that a try again, with fingers crossed. ( not too crossed, though--arthritis cramps up me digits if I am not careful. ).

I really appreciate your replies Catch and Gutholz!!  Thank you!! I do have Track IR 5, yes.  Dang that Lewis gun--maybe I'll practice that on balloons!

Hmm that's weird, almost as weird as the aging process. Can you show us some screenshots illustrating what you describe?

Are your new DLCs listed in the upper right corner of the loading screen?

Is your game version number 7.006?

Hey Neal,

When you hit the Career Button on the Main Menu, it should show you the Career Pilots you already have Campaigns going. In the bottom right corner should be a tab that says Create New Career, hit that, and that should pull up the screen Catch is showing you.

Good Luck,

Stromboli

Thank you again, guys, for the assistance!  Yes, I got it working!  Still not sure how. I hit career from main menu, it went straight to pilots I already have.  I hit Main Menu and it went back. I hit Career again, but this time clicked Career next to main menu, then, Create New Pilot and--there it was.  Western Front, 1916-1918.  So I did a quick test with a new pilot--Aloysis Fuddyduddy ( yeah, I do that with pilot names ; spent so many years making fun of my own, I like to play around with the name creation )--flew one mission with a Sopwith Pup, attacked the airfield, got wounded, flew back, and killed poor Al on landing. ( I do that a lot; usually I let Otto Pilot land the planes ).

I didn't have time to check on the Lewis gun, but will when next I have time and feel up to flying.

Gentlemen: Catch, Gutholz, Skycat 1969 ( yes, my version is 7.006 and yes, all my DLC's are listed in the red box upper right corner  ), and Stromboli ; I cannot thank you enough for your assistance.  May all your flights be successful, and all your mates buy YOU a brew at the club!! <S>  And I owe you one myself!

Here's an old vid of mine kind of illustrating aiming the Lewis in the upright position at about 5.46 for anyone that's interested.
