GiftGruen Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Does anyone remember this TV series from the 70s ? It‘s about the early birds from the beginning, covering also wk1 and ending somewhere in the 30s Was a german/french/canadian coproduction, so I assume there are at least german and french versions, dont know about english ( or other languages ) There are some snippets visible at YouTube and I ordered the series as DVD set now. Loved it as a young boy 🙂 Highly recommended for flight nostalgics, a lot of flying old planes to see! 1 1
jeanba Posted May 3 Posted May 3 I confirm, it is very interesting as it shows dawn of flight réal aircraft flying
Catch Posted May 3 Posted May 3 I've never heard of it. I shall have to look into this and check out the utoob snippets. Aviation from the very beginning to the 30's is the most fascinating period of all. 3 hours ago, jeanba said: it shows dawn of flight réal aircraft flying Absolutely. Nothing better.
Catch Posted May 4 Posted May 4 (edited) Episode 7 in which Bleriot crosses the Channel. There's romance, there's drama, there's sexy Edwardian chicks with a glint in their eye and there's adventurous young men. And there are the wonderful crates. At the end when Bleriot lands, an English official wanders up to Louis and asks him 'nothing to declare' which is answered in French. Not understanding the lingo, the official then writes in his notebook .. Has not contagious sickness ... He may continue his trip. Very British. I had to laugh. Of course, as everyone knows, Hubert Latham attempted to cross the Channel before Bleriot in the Antoinette, featured incidentally in Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines, but suffered engine failure. He tried again after Bleriot's success but suffered engine failure again. The Antoinette is featured briefly in this episode. Check vid here. https://ok.ru/video/46539803330 Edited May 4 by Catch
Cunctator Posted May 10 Posted May 10 I loved this series as a child. Together with Baa Baa Black Sheep/Black Sheep Squadron one of the reason I fell in love with the old planes. When I last looked for it a few years ago I could only find the French version and unfortunately, my french is not very good.
GiftGruen Posted May 19 Author Posted May 19 (edited) Now have the DVDs and watched the first three episodes yesterday. Lilienthal, Ader, Voisin. Tbh - the story with french 19th century family clashes and so on is somewhat weird. Very 70s ! But the vintage plane references, scenes, stories .. and the complete spirit behind … ey .. that‘s sooo great 🙂 Edited May 19 by GiftGruen
