Trooper117 Posted November 30, 2025 Posted November 30, 2025 (edited) Great stuff! B-17's as some sort of air sea rescue aircraft, plus Dakota's there as well... Edited November 30, 2025 by Trooper117
BlitzPig_EL Posted November 30, 2025 Posted November 30, 2025 Also C46 Commandos! I would not have thought that any were still in service 5 years after WW2.
Swoose Posted December 6, 2025 Posted December 6, 2025 By content creator "Not A Pound For Air-To-Ground": "This video traces the parallel origins of the MiG-15 and F-86 Sabre, comparing their aerodynamic and technical characteristics, and explaining how each aircraft performed in combat over Korea. I've considered pilot training, basing, tactical doctrine, and the evolving balance of advantage through the war. I'll also get into the sticky subject of which fighter did better in the conflict in Korea." 3 1

BlitzPig_EL Posted December 26, 2025 Posted December 26, 2025 Were those films really that bad to start with, or is the the effect of poor storage over time degrading the images? Honestly, it looks like someone smeared petroleum jelly on the lenses. 1

Honestly, it looks like someone smeared petroleum jelly on the lenses. There is a prolific military video footage poster on X, hw97karbine, who says the problem is typically that when these films were first transferred from the archives, the transfer process methods were still not of the best quality, so you end up with these crappy-resolution films still floating around. According to him, the original footage was typically quite high-resolution for the time (as his posts show). 2 1

Nearlymen Posted May 4 Posted May 4 (edited) A little bit of additional info about Lou Spence C/O of 77 Sqdn. A good friend of mine was the late Dick Peters who flew as no.2 to the C/O Tommy Handley who took over command of 800 sqdn with their Seafire 47's during the Korean Tour. For a while just before the outbreak of the war, both 77 and 800 were based at Iwakuni, Japan and by all accounts got on rather well ! To the point that Lou Spence had a hankering to fly a Seafire 47 and after a good night in the mess with Dick they both ended up the next day doing a mech shake down flight at the same time ! Hmmm..quite by chance you understand ! lol !! So they both taxied out, went to far reaches of the airfield, jumped out and in a highly irregular operation swopped planes ! How I know this this, well I was chatting with Dick and he was showing me his log book and my eye was drawn to a very strange entry of a P-51, and thus the story unfolded ! I believe Lou Spences log books are in a museum somewhere, but I like to think in them is a strange entry of a seafire 47 and this is the tale ! As a footnote if anyone is interested in the story of the Aussies 77 sqdn in Korea I can recomended the book 'The Forgotten Few' by Doug Hurst, it's a good read ! Edited May 4 by Nearlymen 3 1
