for those that are not yet in 190D: it‘s a mixed bag: for sure a cute fighter to fly, some bastard between 109 and 190.

While punch and rollrate are somewhat not as pure than a 190A will give you, the Dora climbs better and owns some somewhat boring overall harmony, instead of the pure 190 feeling.

This is an extra 190, for sure, its another plane, a D, not an A9. So .. worthwile to try.

Me? Still try to ‚feel‘ her.

Have to say, although not on par with the La5 ailerons, this D model is just as quick as the A models on roll-rate for most speed ranges.

I'm not personally that much of a LW fan, so there's barely any chance I'll fly the 190s any time soon.

But I'll send the link to this topic in the russian-speaking section of the forum, maybe there will be more volunteers. (I'll warn them to translate their reasoning, so don't worry about that)

you know what i find awesome about this (good looking, yes....) plane? 

The are 2 incredibly good campaigns for it. 

1. The Last Stand , by @sandmarken

2. Grunhertz Dora, by saldy

In my opinion, this fact makes the plane valuable 😉 

Otherwise, The Fw-190, in all its variants, well, i've found to be very good attack plane, but very bad fighter, in my clumsy hands.

The Dora, certainly much better fighter. Like a muscle up 109, and that's something i can handle fine.

But i would like to stress out this 2 campaigns: awesome , they are.

very true! The Last stand campaign i've done first time....without the Dore (didn't owned it.....back then) And the game replaced it automatically with a A8. Strange?

( btw - I dont see the 190A so bad. Yes, it‘s not focussed on dogfighting, but hunting bombers or IL2s in a 190 is much more satisfying than doing this in a 109. Heavy punching and way more robust )

Like other late war German planes, one of its best attributes is the jump in power of its wep setting and that it can be sustained for 10 minutes at a time.  The aircraft has the excess power to generate energy quickly, which harmonizes well with its fighting style.  Another is the high effectiveness of its second super charger gear.  The second gear boosts over 1.8 ata to recover some power lost from the higher gear ratio.  Climbing out is convenient because wep is not available without the mw 50 system active, so you can just slam the throttle forward to the stop which selects full climb power and leave it there.  The bediengerat is similar in effect to the bmw kommandogerat, fully automating engine and propeller management, but it is amusingly twitchy when shifting super charger gears.  The range of full throttle altitudes between 2 and 3 km it pretty wide so you'll want to be fighting above that if possible, since max boost pressure is below wep there.

I mainly fly the 190A8 but in the discord-group where I joined they do seem to prefer the D9.

AFw190 without radial engine feels a bit wrong to me, before IL2 I did not know that this was a thing. But willing to try it out.

yes you are right: 190 with radial engine finally gives me the sensation that the IAR became worthy in combat !! 🙂 Did you know that the Americans deliberately or not kept reporting that they encountered/shot down Fw190 instead of IARs? after the war, when was proven that no 190 whatsoever was defending romania, they were a bit pissed of.... 🙂 the germans refused to sell 190 to ro. dunno why.  109s were the best we've got.

If you perfere the 109 i woud suggest trying Downfall instead. Its made for the 109 during the same end times for the luftwaffe. Its more refined and also follows historical events from the perspective of III.JG27.  

But if you rather do the last stand you can ofc change the plane in the editor. Its an easy task.

Dora 9 and the P-38 Lightning are only available in the premium edition or seperately as collector planes.

Started the Dora Grünherz Campaign, first two missions. Great so far! While the first mission is a chilling warmup with P47 TurkeyShooting .. the second one is absolutely great, fitting perfect to the Doras Purpose.  Bomber swarms 🥰

Just shortly looked at ‚Last Stand‘ - there are no mission descriptions yet, so I did something wrong obviously. ( yes, opened and re-saved them in mission editor )

dont wanna spam this ‚gift-thread‘ with campaign discussion. Maybe @sandmarken you create a Campaign thread for these ?  ‚Grünherz‘ so far looks really great for the Dora ! Thanks!

Awesome. I just find the machine so much faster; 607kmh vs 558 average of the A series, and a way better climb. It's just as fast on paper as the 109 K4 down low, with climb nearly the same.

Thanks for reminding me about the R4M rockets! I haven't used those yet and will try having some fun with those now! 🫡
