AcesDarthBubu Posted May 4 Posted May 4 The problem with vanilla game setting is that it is either too dark to even able to make out silhouette of terrain and planes at night or too wash out in the day. If i only wanted to brighten up the external scene during night but retain the gamma of 1 in VR. Is this possible with reshade mod?

Yes, you can select some techniques (VREMtechnicolor, VREMHDR,...) that can change only external or cockpit or all, depending your selection. 1

But we need a stable version at first... Ah ok Thanks. BTW i installed reshade with DX and OpenXR , saw a VREM package there to enable. I just wandering why some effects are working and some doesn't in VR. For example SMAA when I switch it on I don't see any change in VR , but when I installed reshade on 2D - only DX there the image is changing...
Wolzow Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Thank you! For me as an SteamVR user (with IL2) its an huge improvement in Performance...should be part of the original game!
Vostok Posted August 21 Posted August 21 (edited) Does anyone know how to fix this error? I followed the installation instructions (Reshade 6.8.0 with addon support, rendering api DirectX 10/11/12, untick "Generic Depth", untick "Effect Runtime Sync" and IL2 GB VREM is ticket) but when I launch the game in VR, I get this error and it crashes. I'm using a Meta Quest 3, OpenComposite, and Virtual Desktop. In the meantime could you test with and older release of reshade ? Edited August 21 by lefuneste

I tried a clean install (delete all previous files) following the instructions with ReShade 6.7.3 (with add-on support): same result. I even got an extra error message on top of the two others already shown in my previous message : EDIT On 4/16/2026 at 8:52 PM, lefuneste said: Can you try this unofficial reshade version in whohc I removed VR support: https://www.mediafire.com/file/9ko8c8gx5pyzu3u/ReShade_Setup.exe/file If it is working without issue with opencomposite, you can try my mod on top of it. But I'd like you to send me the reshade.log when you have the error IVROverlay_208, so I'll try to ask a fix in reshade. They did it for the message I had initially with Varjo OpenXR and opencomposite... Otherwise, I updated github with the v1.2 : 2026/04/16 : sun halo masking and night mode for map working I tried with your unofficial modified version (sorry, I had missed this post) and it seems to work, but otherwise it's impossible to make it work with the latest version of ReShade or previous ones 🤷♂️ EDIT 2 Is it normal that HDR, ColorMatrix, Technicolor and other filters don't seem to have any effect inside the vr headset? I can see them working on the mirror display on my monitor, but there's no difference at all in the headset. Did I miss something? lefuneste Posted August 24 Author Posted August 24 I checked with last version of reshade and VR is working for my IL2GB with opencomposite (as the previous one) I'm not using the GUI you posted, just an openvr_api.dll of 2 391 KB (I don't remind from where I got it long time ago...). for the effect not visible in VR, it seems an IL2 version had broken the mod, as it is no more working for me also. I'll have a look.

I removed it and used the per-game installation DLL (which can be found at the previous link, and I can confirm it's a 2,391 KB .dll file), then updated ReShade to 6.8.0. No more error messages on launch! Not sure why, but at least if someone runs into a similar issue, maybe they'll find their solution here. Well, it's reassuring to know the filter issue isn't just on my end. Hopefully, you manage to find a fix! Thanks for your help! Shader injection should work with the 1.3 available as explained in the "installation" post.

Great, the filters are now working with 1.3 ! But I'm running into new issues 😢 The icons aren't working anymore... they occasionally flash briefly depending on the angle I'm looking from with the headset. Pilots notes aren't working either, they appear very very briefly before disappearing. I tried a fresh install from scratch, meticulously following every single step, but issues persist. I'll try to post my settings and some videos of the issue. EDIT Settings : Issues with Icons : It's not easy to capture the issue... the icons barely show up only very briefly and I can't quite figure out the exact trigger or conditions. It feels like it happens when I tilt my head all the way back, almost breaking my neck, but I'm not entirely sure I make an other video, I recorded this real quick, twisting myself every which way i can to try and make the icons appear or disappear based on my head position : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mwhq3xJLu4 Issues with Pilot Notes : There's no visible effect when I press 'K', and the notes only appear briefly when I hit 'Shift+K' to toggle textures Edited August 27 by Vostok Ryzen 7 9800X3D | RTX 5070 TI | 64gb DDR5 | Meta Quest 3 | VKB Gladiator Evo NXT Premium & VKB GNX WWII Throttle + GNX-THQ

Did you do it ? Maybe the icons are hidden because the cockpit mask is not at good resolution for icon...What are your graphic settings? Can you post a track and your graphics.cfg ?

Regarding the pilot notes, as you can see in my video, they show up very briefly but don't stay on screen. And yes, I am pressing "K" to activate the feature and then "Shift + K" multiple times to select the right texture. I used to use it without any issues before. For the icons, issue seems to be linked to the "Mask all icons by airframe" setting: when I disable it, the icons display correctly again. I've attached a screenshot of my graphic settings and my startup.cfg. All these issues issue occurs in both VR and 2D mode. startup.cfg EDIT I took the time to remake a video for the icon issue, since the issue also occurs in 2D, it might be more illustrative. Just in case: I just realized that 'enable ingame technique pipeline' is checked in this example video, but I only enabled it for testing and forgot to uncheck it. It doesn't change anything regarding my issues whether it's enabled or not. I fixed the bug with pilot notes, but the issue with icon is more global : there is a problem with MSAA, it is impacting the mask used for different features, so I need to find a fix for it. 1
