Oh, oh, OH! Sorry! Mentioning 3 yrs of war, I thought....Ukraine.

So, skip the neighbouring aspect and heartly keep the colleague one.

No neighbor then, but colleague and hopefully friend!

Mt family actually came from the Odessa region, but left already by 1912. One of my dreams is to visit.

As somebody who is experiencing war, maybe you can understand. I wanted to set up the simpit in the bomb shelter to I can fire rockets while having rockets fired at me. My wife put that at a hard "no" becaus the kids sleep there!

So, finally got my curved screen. Managed to damage it a bit from start: the lightning and colours being quite dull compared to my previous asus, I've tried to peel off the protective sheet. which was actually the outer skin of the screen.....stupid me. Even asked the AI about this before and......it was just as stupid as myself.

Anyhow, the curvature is pleasant, but not game changer, the wider screen is really great, and the colours and contrast, even after tweaking, calibration, etc, are less appealing compared to the previous (and more expensive!) one.

Spotting is overall quite better.

If I could only get rid of this greenish overall tint...

Perhaps the new screen has a matte coating while the old one was glossy. Glossy is better if you can prevent the sun from shining on the screen.

yep, only for the upper right corner the correct tense is ...HAD... 😥

strange, it was not just a matte coating, as where i forcebly and stupidly removed it, there is a glossy, clear surface showing just.....white. as i put back the piece i've removed, the image was back over there, but clearly duck-ed up. (=f...-up). the broken corner is very small, actually doesn't matter that much, but it constantly reminds me of my rushed and stupid action. for me/my job doing such thing is impardonable, i have 20+ yrs of training into NOT acting without thinking. dunno how i could do it. actually, i asked Claude first, sent pictures, all, ant itreinforced the idea of removing that layer. Buh....stupid....

on a different note, notice the white bench i'm using. it fit inside, as with the doors closed everything is.....in the closet! Made it myself, very proud of it. Also for extra buttons/slider attached to the virpil stick /base, i used the base of an old logitech. this way the hole piece is heavy enough as not to jump from the table when i pull hard on the stick, since i've filled the logitech case with some lead balls. Not actually mine. 🙂

Was wondering about that base. Nice Intelligent use of old hardware. 👍

Is it comfortable to fly on the bench without any back support?

not really, but i got used to it. Have to find a solution for a pliable/retractable backrest, so as to still fit in the (now famous 🙂 ) closet.

something like a lid over the existing cushioned one,  with very strong hinges

Fairly basic. Next level seat rig and a Next level stand with the older 49" Odyssey. Originally was doing a lot of iracing but have shelved the Moza pedals and wheel for now to get some BoS practice until Korea drops. Last pic you can see what the cat thinks of it all..big yaaaawn.

If Korea really grabs me i'm going to sell the Next level (very low to the floor) seat rig and upgrade to something a bit more comfy with some height.

These 56 year old bones don't like all the getting down and up when it's so low, but, it's been decent as a starter rig. Much better than my chair with vkb mounts on the desk.

I am in a period of low motivation and interest and do mostly civilian chopper missions in DCS and a little x plane 12 just so I can test some hardware I want to sell. Bought dirt cheap on impulse

I found myself in a situation of becoming more an more obsolete in computer hardware.
And not that I can afford a new, I just find current prices on gpu and ram offensive.

Upgrade time. If i'm lucky i'll get a tiny bit of seat time in later tonight (7.30pm now) to get some stick/throttle/rudder adjusting done. Been a long day as usual, up at 4am, on the road by 4:45, work by 5:45, on the road again at 3pm, home by 4ish, this turned up at 6:20pm. Thank god it's Friday.

One hour down and basics done. Thought it was going to be a bit higher tbh, still to put the feet on which will give it another inch. From what i've read up i possibly have some mount drilling ahead for the VKB stuff to fit..but, i have a decent selection of table mounts and other base plates around that it shouldn't be much trouble getting sorted. Then i need to decide if i am going sidestick or centre mount.

Not going to lie though, that cheap victory seat is pretty damn comfy.

Well, all pretty simple, need to drill one hole for the stick base, has three in atm, and two for the throttle. The stecs will either line up two left screws or two right. Cheapo TM rudder doesn't have any good screwing points so 6 zipties as she was before. Upgraded rudders are on the list but they can wait a while.

One mod i would like to do is make the right hand, mouse area, swivel down and out of the way. Might knock something up for that.

Quick first impressions, pretty solid as is, no movement anywhere at all. Chair is harder, denser material base, might just need some braking in. Stick feels very nice where it is, enough adjustment up and down atm until i get a few hours on it to get a real feel. Throttle base is solid as, zero movement. Enough chair movement back and the recline is massive lol.

Not flying tonight, gotta clean up the loungeroom, shower, bed 😅

And yes, the modelling hobby in the background is just as expensive as the flying one in the fore.
