Panzerkatze Posted March 8 Posted March 8 (edited) If a player stops playing and deletes the account, can license keys of that account be donated someone else? Dang, was meant to Great Battles General Discussion. Edited March 8 by Panzerkatze
AndyJWest Posted March 9 Posted March 9 The answer is 'no' for IL-2 GB, and I'm sure it will be 'no' for Korea. The User Agreement prohibits transfer of accounts, as is normal in the video game industry, and for paid-for software generally.

That way you can gift the game to your child, nephew, friend or whoever you want to. If you delete the account, then all access is gone forever. https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/79295-change-email-for-il2-account/ Edited March 9 by sevenless 1

Dang, was meant to Great Battles General Discussion. If you live in the EU, you have a legal right to resell any products you buy. This includes digital, key based games. Since 1CGS is HQ'ed in Cyprus, an EU member state, this clearly applies. The implementation is basically their problem, but it's likely they have no automated way to do so, so I advise contacting Support. If you're not in the EU, this *might* still apply but I'm not sure. EDIT: the jurisprudence for the above was recently superseded; see the comment by AndyJWest below. Edited March 9 by AEthelraedUnraed

A EULA cannot supersede the law and limit the rights given by the latter. So since legislation is contrary to the EULA in this case, this particular part of it is basically voided and the answer is "yes". At least if you're in the EU. EDIT: Dang, I meant to add this part to my previous post using the "edit" function but somehow it made another post out of it. Oh well... Edited March 9 by AEthelraedUnraed
AndyJWest Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Regarding EU law, see this 2024 case: https://www.deleporte-wentz-avocat.com/actualite-when-digital-isn-t-transferable-the-legal-status-of-second-hand-video-games A French court ruled that downloadable versions of video games, rather than physical copies, aren't transferable.

I wasn't aware of this new ruling. I stand corrected 🙂 Although this explicitly concerns downloaded games only, so if you're the lucky owner of one of the rare hardcopy versions of IL2:BoS that were apparently only distributed in Russia, you're still entitled to resell it 😉 Edited March 9 by AEthelraedUnraed

Drewm3i-VR Posted March 9 Posted March 9 (edited) Just gift it privately by updating info and don't make a big fuss about it. There's no reason the devs should care since they could get a new player hooked on IL-2 who will go on to make many purchases as is often the case. I have gifted IL-2 a few times to friends (additional copies). Edited March 9 by Drewm3i-VR
