If anyone is still struggling and doesn't want to cheat! The way I did it was to apply a land navigation technique used to find a waypoint in a known location. Fly to the centre point of the marked search area on the map and then fly low and slow in a spiral outwards, e.g. fly east 300 metres, then N 300, then W 600, then S 600, E 900, etc etc. Approximate the distances using the plane icon on the map.

It's a brilliant mission and makes you appreciate just how hard it would've been to find downed pilots in the sea.

Hi,

In the mission Needle in a haystack' presentation don't you mean "the mouth of the Seine" near Lehavre instead of "the mouth of the Orne river" which flows out to the sea at Ouistream near Caen ?

I would have to look back to see which it is closer to, but I'll check. just follow the flight path, and don't stray too far. It's not really that hard if you stay low... like 500 feet low.
