kraut1 Posted December 18 Posted December 18 Hi All, The DB 601 Aa with the increased performance in low / medium altitudes would be helpful for 1941 Eastern Front Missions. But was it really used by the Luftwaffe for fighters? Or only for the BF109-E4B Jabos? Many Thanks in advance! Quote
Panzerkatze Posted December 18 Posted December 18 (edited) As far as what I've read, Bf109E with DB 601 Aa engine came during the time at BoB and was in service on the Eastern Front during the early stages of Operation Barbarossa in 1941. So, in Odessa front as well. Edited December 18 by Panzerkatze Rwogn wrods 1 Quote
1C Game Studios LukeFF Posted December 18 1C Game Studios Posted December 18 Yes, the sources say it was mostly used on fighter-bombers, but that doesn't preclude its use on non-jabo fighters. 1 Quote

Thanks very much for your answer! Now my very last question, I promise: Did the Jagdgeschwader 1941 in the Odessa area (JG52, JG77) still have 1 or 2 Jabo (Fighter Bomber) squadrons or were ground attacks flown by the "normal" fighter squadrons? Not aware of JG 52 having a jabo squadron, but in JG 77, yes, 5. Staffel was the designated jabo staffel. 1 Quote
