Old forum download links

It's been mentioned elsewhere that download links to files hosted on the old forums now show up as "unavailable".

As I recall this is also what you saw when you were not logged in to the forum and was presumably intended to encourage membership and a form of security.

With the transfer over to the new forum, we are no longer able to log into the old forum. This was done to prevent people adding new content - which is completely understandable and valid. However, as we are unable to log in to the old forums the undesirable side effect is the aforementioned "unavailable" downloads.

Is it possible to alter the security on the old forum such that public or world level access allows downloads?
