Unable to open msnbin files or resave them

HI everyone, I have a problem I cant seem to get past.  I have some msnbin mission files I have downloaded when connecting to multiplayer servers (wing walkers, cold blue, etc..).  I would like to edit them to make some changes for our group to use on our own private dserver.

I have scoured the forums and they all say to resave them, which I have tried over and over again, I've ran the editor in admin mode, checked file and directory permissions but nothing has worked.  When I try to resave it appears to have worked as there is no error (it runs for maybe 3 seconds for about 15 msnbin files which seems a bit fast) but when I check the file the modified date has not changed, there's no .mission file in the directory and I'm unable top open the msnbin file in the editor.

I just get my dserver license a few days ago and downloaded the client so I'm sure its the latest version.

I'd appreciate any help at all since I'm absolutely dumbfounded at what the issue may be.

Hi

I guess that is related to the latest uptate.
Since that you are no longer able to open downloaded .msnbin files from other servers with the editor.
IIRC that only affects multiplayer missions, but that ist what you were talking about.

In case you have 'older' downloaded missions available that could still work, but everything 'saved' by the hosters afterwards...NO way

Thanks for the info.  I guess I just have to wait for an updated version of the editor then.

Sadly it was introduces as a feature, so don't hold your breath @LK01

The idea was that you cannot check the mission beforehand in Multiplayer and gain unfair advantage. A fair point sure, but hurts many non-professional mission builders for example as you cannot learn from already made missions.

Hi,

Yesterday I wanted to open binary files too.
But they were not shown when I tried open files with the ME.
And when I tried to resave it took only few seconds and nothing was changed.
And then I searched in the internet and found the hint:

When you are in the "open file" menu type the filter *.* and this worked:
I was able to see the binary and to open and save to have all files as usual...

Things have changed since Novemeber/December 2025. IL2 have bloked the ability of what you are trying to do but there is a workaround. Although if I post the solution here, it may be removed or they will fix the hole via a patch. Anyway ...
1. fly on any server and make a recording (Start/Stop: Press LCtrl + R during a flight.)
2. Via file explorer find the recording and open the folder with the same name. (Usually in ...\IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles\data\Tracks) You will see all files needed for the editor inc. the .mission & .MSNBIN file.
3. Copy and paste the folder file to where you want it and then open it in the editor and make your changes.
