v11.2 - 2025/12/27 :  changes for Spit mk XIV suggested by Mark_Krieger added

Hello,

It's difficult to fly without technochat planes you don't know by heart. So, some people created Pilots Notes for Cockpit Photos to display parameters in the cockpit photo and help you to do it.

I'm a fan of it, but I found some lacks in it and, at the opposite,  some informations not really needed.

So I created a new template, including more information:

2021_9_10__17_31_0.thumb.jpg.6330f8adc0822ae2b775671d3033e86c.jpg

In addition of what was in the "Pilots Notes for Cockpit Photos", the new template includes this information:

  • Propeller rotation direction beside RPM, put at left or right of RPM label, regarding rotation direction. The position of the logo is the direction the plane will pull on takeoff, or the direction on which it is easier to turn.
  • Dive, Climb, Corner, Glidescope speed
  • Manual or Automatic mode for cooling is specified by (M) or (A).
  • Altitude for supercharger stage change (if more than 1 stage)
  • Way to engage boost (if any)
  • Range information and some time rough extrapolation on range if Fuel Warning (based on flight parameter for max.Range).
  • Various Tips
  • "Worst performance line" is describing altitude range in which IAS is lowering with altitude (at low altitude), as drawn in IL2compare:396513513_worstperf.JPG.40071e71d7e023af71819e030a5afca9.JPG

Information are taken from https://ravensystem.github.io/il2_specs/ of RavenSystem, from IL2Compare, and from Aircraft Flight and Technical Specifications and Operational Details (which seems no more updated).

Special thanks to @Charlo-VR who fills a lot of WWI sheet and C6_zorkaiev who provides me a compilation of them.

RPM information for German planes using "KomandoGerat" are only valid at low altitude and must better be been seen as a cue than as an instruction.

Depending of fly parameter and altitude, KomandoGerat may put WEP or Nominal RPM for same ATA !

So fly your German bird with "KomandoGerat" by  RPM and not by ATA.

There are 2 versions provided in the mod, each version contains all WWII planes, so only one is to be used.

  • Another Pilots Notes for CockPit Photos official numbers
    Nominal parameters are taken from the Aircraft Flight and Technical Specification
  • Another Pilots Notes for CockPit Photos technochat numbers
    Nominal parameters are taken from measurement I made  in IL2 at 300m using technochat.
    All note are not impacted (for examples Spitfires seems OK in the official doc). Modified notes are outlined in black and elements modified are in italic

Of couse, the idea and first version are from SAS_Storebror II./JG1_Vonrd.

Every profile is provided as a gimp file in the same directory than the .dds, in order to ease any change (Plane/Textures/)

There is a DEFAULT folder containing the template to fill for any new plane.

All "chapters" are in a dedicated text layer.

In order to export the .dds file from GIMP you have to do the following steps:

  • Merge layer /clipped to image" command
  • Export as an custom_photo.dds
    Option = compression BC3/DTX5
    mipmap = generate mipmap
  • Undo merge layers

All WWI and WWII planes are available here:

https://www.mediafire.com/file/20t4b77ekqs5syn/Another_Pilots_Notes_for_CockPit_Photos_v11.2.zip/file

To install it :

  • Use JSGME or OVGME (best way) or
  • Unzip the file, copy the contain of the directory "Another Pilots Notes for CockPit Photos official numbers" or "Another Pilots Notes for CockPit Photos technochat numbers" into the directory of IL2. All files named "custom_photo.dds" in [IL2installDIR]\data\graphics\Planes\[planeName]\Textures should be overwritten.

As for previous Pilots Notes for Cockpit Photos, do  not forget to  enable "Photo" in the "Pilot Stuff" tab in the "Plane Settings" (Where you select fuel load, ammo, skins, etc.).

Please fill free to modify, fix, add profiles and diffuse them.

Thank you for moving it to the new forum. Could you please check the upload of the 2nd and 3rd picture. They do not show up. The first one is OK

Edit. Must have been something wrong on my side. Now it's OK. Sorry

Some suggestions to change on the Spitfire Mk. XIV and XIV bubble canopy notes based on the historical Pilot's Note's manual.

Recommended climb speed: 180 mph (instead 165)
Recommended approach speed with flaps down: 100 mph (engine assisted), 110 mph (glide) (instead 125 glide)
Maximum speed to lower landing gear and flaps: 160 mph (instead 140)
Full rudder trim to port to take off.

Thank you!

hello, reading elements from here https://ravensystem.github.io/il2_specs/planes/spitfiremkxiv.eng.html , I got

glide = 180-210 kph, 195 kph = 121 mph...I put 125, so I fixed it to 121.
As I have no reference from climb, I'll put 180.
sorry, no room for trim...
first post updated with 11.2 versio
