Ayrek2023 Posted December 1, 2025 Posted December 1, 2025 Oh boy, kinda hard to just pick one but I’m definitely going to give it to the F-84E Thunderjet. the F-84 stands out to me because of its bold striking features, large straight wings, a thin pen like fuselage, and larger vertical stabilizer. Buts its not just the features of this jet that attract me but also its history, during the Korean war Thunderjets were originally used in the escort role, but the large straight wings were not suitable for dogfighting, instead they were soon regulated to ground attack duties. 1 Quote
Blitzen Posted December 1, 2025 Posted December 1, 2025 (edited) I think I'd have to say the Grumman F-9-F Panther. Why? Well ,for that you'd have to go way back...back to the early 50's when my family and I would go to drive in movies. Two were among my favorites that we managed to see ( that were exceptions to the vivid MGM musicals my older sisters insisted on...)were " Bridges of Toko ri" and "Men of the Fighting Lady." After their dramatic presentation I was hooked on the aircraft and my 9 year old's appreciation of carrier operation, so when the very rudimentary Stormbecker and Aurora plastic models appeared I bothered until my parents bought them for me.I think they had about 10 -15 parts so with my Dad's help I now had a hand held midnight blue sleek fighter to oppose my friend's bright green Mig (- 19?)being fought in the skies in my backyard. The Navy Panther always won until one day in an enthusiastic attempt at flight it was smashed to bits against the side of my home. Over the years i've had many models , even a few of the newer version of F-9-F's, but none quite matched the effect on my imagination.that first Panter had When Il-2 Sturmovik 1946 ( modded) first premeired the flyable F-9-F and a carrier to operate it from, plus a mission to bomb "those bridges ", I enthusiastically voluntered for service, and had a ball with Korean carrier ops, but now after Bos and the images of posted of Korea that modeling appears almost as crude as thos first plastic models...For me ( now some 75 years later with VR I will finally have the opportunity to fly along side Brubacker on the way to destroy those bridges of Tokori and maybe make it home to the U.S.S Oriskany... ( alas I'll have to take a miss on Grace Kelly...) Edited December 1, 2025 by Blitzen added text 1 Quote
Husar Posted December 1, 2025 Posted December 1, 2025 The MiG-15bis was built in Poland under license as the Lim-2, and I made a model of it when I was very young. Quote
Juri_JS Posted December 1, 2025 Posted December 1, 2025 That's a really nice gesture LuftManu. My favorite aircraft often changes. At the moment it is the Yak-9P, because I recently did a lot of research on the unit that flew it over Korea, the 56th Fighter Aviation Regiment of the North Korean Air Force. Although the Yak-9P was completely outclassed by jet aircraft, the unit flew it until mid-1952. The Yak-9P was also the first aircraft of the Korean War that shot down a B-29 and it later became North Koreas first night fighter. My plan is to create a historical scripted campaign for the Yak-9P once Il-2 Korea is released. Should be perfect for everyone who likes to play as the underdog. 2 Quote
Palextra Posted December 1, 2025 Posted December 1, 2025 (edited) Hi Manu!!.... Well, I'm really looking forward to the F-86 Sabré, for sentimental reasons since it was the first Spanish jet aircraft.... We'll have fun emulating the legendary Ascua patrol!! Hugs! Davies Posted December 1, 2025 Posted December 1, 2025 Simply answer the following questions and include an image: • Which Korean aircraft is your favorite (That comes with Il-2 or might come in the future)? F-51 • Why does it stand out to you? It went from being a fighter to a ground pounder, still relevant even with the great leaps of technology at the time. Quote
Leifr Posted December 1, 2025 Posted December 1, 2025 F84 Thunderjet. Continuation of Republic's legacy of the P47 Thunderbolt, carried the absolute burden of the USAF's strike force efforts during the war, and also gave way to the later Republic F-105 Thud Thunderchief, an absolute beauty in of itself. 3 Quote
Venom Posted December 1, 2025 Posted December 1, 2025 Many cool planes to select, but I have to chose one it would be the Grumman F9F Panther. Why? Because it can do all the F-80 can do but with carrier capabilities, because it was the star of the show in the movie "Bridges at Toko-Ri", and because it is cool. 😎 Quote
SARFlytitus Posted December 1, 2025 Posted December 1, 2025 Regardless of who wins the giveaway, thank you for your generosity. For me, the Grumman F9F Panther... Because it's sexy! But, in any case, any flying vehicle that comes out of 1C Game Studios. The simulator series called IL2 has been taking up space on my hard drives since the beginning and, so far, has pleasantly filled a considerable part of my free time. 1 Quote

MajorMagee Posted December 1, 2025 Posted December 1, 2025 (edited) Sadly these are very unlikely to ever make it into the game. It would be great to see HMS Triumph, Theseus, Glory, or Ocean show up off the coast at some point. Edited December 1, 2025 by MajorMagee 2 1 Quote
zoterohero Posted December 1, 2025 Posted December 1, 2025 (edited) My favorite is the F-86 Saber. Loved flying this plane in Chuck Yeager’s Air Combat when I was little!! Edited December 1, 2025 by zoterohero 2 1 Quote
Aapje Posted December 1, 2025 Posted December 1, 2025 My choice is the F-86. Very close in capabilities to the Mig-15, but it is more elegant with weapons that are accurate, rather that have the most punch, and better sorted aerodynamics that don't require wing fences. Quote
Rip Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 Hello B-29 even tho its not flyable its still an amazing piece of history and one of my favorite bombers Quote
HotPursuit Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 Thanks for the giveaway LuftManu. For me it's the MiG-15. Such a sleek capable jet. What a gorgeous cockpit. 1 Quote

Shinobimono Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 (edited) 9 часов назад, Aapje сказал: weapons that are accurate Welp, considering the previous experience the Americans had with appliance of 20 mm aircraft cannons, it is clearly not a matter of accuracy and elegance. 🤔 Like the Corsair' pilot, who claimed MiG-15 and was immediately shot down by other MiG, he received like one projectile in the wing and... MiG-15' cannons are really deadly. Edited December 2, 2025 by Shinobimono 1 Quote
sandmarken Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 For me, it's the Shooting Star! 😁 Not for its performance or looks, but for its interesting story as one of the first US jets. The fact that it flew a couple of WW2 missions in Italy, and yet it's pretty unknown compared to all the other early jets. Quote
102nd-YU-Shraf Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 (edited) It is Il-10 for me. I've always been more of a ground attacker pilot than a fighter, and I love Il-2. He's like a flying sniper rifle. I also hope it's sucessor to be like that, only better . Edited December 2, 2025 by 102nd-YU-Shraf Quote

Oknevas Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 For me, the most desirable is the MiG-15. Beauty in every contour. Quote
robzerg Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 (edited) As a Brit I love the Hawker Sea Fury: Britain’s last great piston fighter, flying from carriers like HMS Ocean and Glory to conduct ground attack missions, interdiction strikes and close air support for UN forces. She was fast (nearly 460 mph) and rugged enough to thrive in the harsh world of carrier operations. On 9 August 1952, a flight of four Sea Furies from 802 Naval Air Squadron was jumped by eight MiG-15s. In the ensuing dogfight, Commander Peter “Hoagy” Carmichael shot down a MiG—an extraordinary feat for a prop-driven aircraft against a jet. The Sea Fury was fast, rugged, and versatile, capable of carrying bombs, rockets, and cannons to devastating effect. Plus… carriers!!! 😊 Edited December 2, 2025 by robzerg 2 1 Quote
