Il-2 Series. Korea Giveaway!

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hello everyone!

To celebrate the launch of the pre-order and to support the development team as we begin this exciting new chapter, I’m hosting a special giveaway: a Korea Premium key featuring the 8 aircraft!

Please remember that you’ll need an account on the purchase website — not just on this forum — in order to receive the prize.
Also, I can't control this but if you win, try to have fun with the game!

How to participate?
It’s very easy!

Simply answer the following questions and include an image:
• Which Korean aircraft is your favorite (That comes with Il-2 or might come in the future)?
• Why does it stand out to you?

Feel free to be creative with your answer — enthusiasm is always welcome!

The giveaway will take place during a livestream that I’ll be hosting on Monday, December 8th at 22:00 (Madrid time, Spain). During the stream, I will use an online randomizer that includes the names of all participants, and it will select one lucky winner.

Thank you all for being part of this community, and for supporting the project during these early stages.
Best of luck, and enjoy the event!

Participants will appear below this message.
Giveaway ends on 8th December at 21:30 Madrid time. I will post here the ending.

Hi!
You know me from discord (the delusional guy)

so with that in mind, Ill go with my delusions - the plane I live for, the corsair is the best plane that I await in korea (with the aircraft carriers that might come to the game). And maybe the mig 15UTI 🙂
why does the corsair and mig 15UTI stand out? the corsair cause its known as the whistle death and the mig 15UTI cause its a goddamn 2 seater mig 15!

cheers Luft!

F4U, my man. I just love those gull wings, kind of like you love destroying PC hardware.

Carbonated drinks, carbonized hardware, same difference, amirite?

Yes, I said it in front of the kids, dear.

Grumman F9F Panther.

I fell in love with this plane after reading the seventh volume of the comic book, Mig Madness, from Yann-Hugault's Angel Wings series.
I think it's a beautiful and very interesting plane, being a naval fighter-bomber. Landing on an aircraft carrier with the plane damaged after a dogfigth with a Mig-15 must be quite a challenge.

If I'm honest - The F-82G:

There is just something so strange about taking a relatively light fighter, and doubling the engines (and everything else)... to get an ultra-long-range escort fighter and interceptor.

The fact that it was the fastest piston engined fighter in Korea (even faster than the Sea Fury) adds to the mystique! It also shot down the first North Korean aircraft lost in aerial combat, and had twice the bomb load of the F-51D when it was used for ground attack.

The Developers have said it is not planned at this time... but I hold out hope... it is certainly charismatic enough that I think a third party might try it (or maybe a small 2027 DLC? It would go great with the F7F-3N which used the same, relatively simple, radar. One could even include the B-26/A-26 invader, and maybe a Po-2/U-2VS... to diversify the night).

Rolling! Long-time IL2 player but never made a forum account until now, but getting a chance at a free copy of Korea is worth it!

Fav Korea plane has to be the Po-2 (or U-2) because it's the only bi-plane in history credited with an aerial victory over a combat jet.😱

It's hard for me to say what's my favourite, maybe F4U-5,I like Vought aircraft and when I saw the trailer of film 金刚川 on October 13th 2020 I fell in love with F4U-5NL.F4U-5 has best flight performance among all F4U variants,it's a shame it doesn't show up in any other games/sims.zBj7I4a.jpg.210518638fb9d4a4d7616ddcec7d2fa9.jpg

F7F Tigercat gets my vote and here's why:

a) It was a subject of the very first aircraft monograph book by AJ-Press publishing company, one of the first private publishers in Poland after 1989, which brought my fellow countrymen a whole long series of excellent books, perfect for us scale modellers during 1990s. The company is long gone, but numerous books from the series are still in my collection;

b) In that book it was cool to see photos of Korea-based Tigercats standing on their main wheels and TAILS (instead of front wheel) on airbase aprons. Apparently it was "normal" for them to flop back when totally empty (no crew, ammo and fuel);

c) It was also interesting to read how difficult night interceptions of Po-2s were for Tigercat crews. Firstly because of poor radar performance against mostly wood and fabric targets, secondly because of big airspeed difference between interceptor and target, making night aiming and gunnery challenging.

Night fighters will require some form of radar simulation though (both for device and AI operator), so I don't think we'll see them in new sim anytime soon. One can dream, however!

Thank you for this giveaway contest, LuftManu!

So many cool planes to pick from, but for me it's gotta be the Grumman F9F Panther.   Whether its air-to-air or air-to-ground, carrier-based naval squadrons or land-based with the Marines, the Panther was asked to do almost everything, so it will provide a variety of mission profiles for pilots.    Featured in the movie "Bridges at Tokyo Ri", it may be time to rent that flick again!

My personal favourite plane of the Korean war is the C-119 as it played a crucial part in the Korean war, not as flashy as fighters and bombers but it, just like other cargo planes kept the those planes going. It delivered supplies and troops throughout the whole war and had a very cool twin boom design, which allowed them to just throw cargo and troops out of the back of the plane.

One of the most beautiful aircraft of its time — a machine standing on the threshold of eras, carrying within it the noble legacy of the piston-powered knights of the sky and the bold breath of the coming age of jet propulsion.

The idea that it could outperform a B-17 still amazes me.

The MiG 15, the little fighter that could.
MiG-15241.png.3f21118672ece67b02cc92a2ac01133a.png

There once was a little fighter called two-four-one (241)
Sitting all day in his hangar, because the war wasn’t won.
On one day, he was listening to the American radio. “In the south, you can be free! you can be free!

“Oh, I would like to be free, I would, I would” the little MiG told his flyer, 2nd lt. Chung Nak-Hyun.
“Fly as much as I can! Fly as high as I can! Fly as fast as I can! Wouldn’t it be fun, bepeu Chung?”

Oh, that does sound like a lot of fun, two-four-one!

All the other aircraft in the hangar said that it wasn’t possible. “You’re just a little fighter, be a bit brighter! There are AA-guns all along the DMZ, you have no maps of where the southern bases are, and the Americans will shoot you down if they see you!”

This made the little fighter sad. But it is worth a shot! I just need to make sure I won’t get caught!

The next day Chung and two-four-one took off. One last circle around Wonsan, and then we’re gone! Stay along the coast, that way we’re safe the most!

And off they went, the adventure began.
But all that high-speed flying made the fuel tanks quickly empty, that wasn’t part of the plan!

korea.jpg.d3c4b8609152019d9ec781925cfed250.jpg

Thankfully, the little MiG soon saw a small strip of sand, barely 1200 meters long. Chung said: “Go for it, two-four-one! I know you won’t get it wrong!”

Two-four-one barely made it. The South-Koreans ran to the brave, little MiG and complimented Chung on the miraculous landing. “Amazing work Chung!”
“Oh no” Chung quickly said, “It was all two-four-one, he is the one that is so outstanding!”

And so became two-four-one the first MiG-15 in ROKAF service, and finally this brave little MiG would show the South-Koreans how much he could fly, how high he could fly, how fast he could fly, and did so for the rest of his life.

And Chung? Within a week he was promoted to first lieutenant, got a medal, and was allowed to fly in the Republic of Korea Air Force.

All because of The Little MiG’s bravery.

MIG 15 it is a beautiful aircraft and I would love to fly it in IL2 Korea

1. Its Swept Wings Were Influenced by Captured Nazi Research

Although the MiG-15 is often credited as a purely Soviet design, its 35° swept wing concept was partly derived from German aerodynamic research captured after WWII. Soviet engineers studied the Messerschmitt and Junkers data on transonic airflow, which heavily shaped the MiG-15’s configuration.

2. The Most Successful Variant Was Actually Built in Poland

While the aircraft was designed in the USSR, Poland built the largest number of export-quality MiG-15s under license. The Polish-built Lim-1 and Lim-2 variants were considered among the best finished and were exported widely.

3. Its Engine Was Based on a British Jet

Perhaps the strangest fact: the MiG-15’s early engine, the Klimov VK-1, was a near copy of the Rolls-Royce Nene, which Britain willingly sold to the USSR in 1946. The Soviets reverse-engineered it—and the resulting VK-1 gave the MiG-15 its defining performance edge.

4. Many Early MiG-15s Had No Radar Gunsight

Most MiG-15bis fighters initially lacked a sophisticated radar-ranging gunsight, relying instead on simple optical sights, even while engaging F-86 Sabres equipped with the advanced A-1CM gunsight.

For me, it is the YP/F-80 and T-33 versions.
The F-80 was one of the first operational US jets.
It was developed and designed in a very short time (180 days) and used the elegant desing line of the WW2 era prop planes.
The Canopy, the wingdesign, everything looks like a straight WW2 design!

Nice plane to start with 🙂

Corsair.
I wasn't familiar with its combat history in Korea until I saw the movie Devotion, it got me hyped.

What makes it stand out to me is that I imagine gameplay will be very fun with Commander Mode. Planning ground attack sorties and fighting for our lives when enemy fighters appear. (for that I would also love the Skyraider)

I'd say the F94 Starfire is my favorite, but that likely wont come to Korea. So instead, I'm going with the MiG-15Bis.
It's quite a popular pick here (And I get it) but for me it's the firepower. Not to mention that it's also just a beautiful aircraft overall.Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17 - Price, Specs, Photo Gallery, History - Aero Corner
