Winter Wonderland (zimnyaya skazka) is a 12-mission single player scripted campaign in which the Player will fly the LaGG-3 on the Velikie Luki Winter map.  Missions are from January 17 - January 22, 1942.  The time period is during the Toropets - Kholm Offensive which began on January 9, 1942.  The Soviet 4 SAD, the air division assigned to support the 4th Shock Army, consisted of only LaGG-3, I-15bis, and U2vs aircraft.

 

***Notes:  

*At this time, we do not have an early-version-LaGG-3, such as the series 8 or 11 which was historically used during this time period, so, the later version-series 29, which became available in June 1942 is used instead.

*A mission is successful when the player destroys a target on a mission.  So, if a target is destroyed, it is not necessary to make a landing at the home airfield.  However, You have the option to land, refuel, and re-arm to takeoff again to destroy more targets.

*For the first nine missions you must taxi-to-the-runway on a frozen lake. (You may use the autopilot (Shift+A) to taxi and takeoff).  The last three missions start on the runway with engine running.

*Missions have short flight times.

*Mission descriptions are in English-only, sorry.

Note for future Sim updates:  Whenever Great Battles is updated, mission files get broken and must be updated, again and again, rendering them unplayable.  In order to fix the missions, open the IL-2 Sturmovik Mission Editor... in the TOOLS dropdown list, choose "Resave All Missions in Folder" and navigate to the Campaigns and/or Missions folder in your computer (IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles/data/Campaigns) and click "OK".

I wanted to do something on the Velikie Luki Winter map and for the LaGG and so I found the Toropets-Kholm Offensive.  But there were no airfields to use in the upper right corner of the map, so, I got the idea to use the frozen lake as a hidden forward airfield.  This map, to me, is like a winter wonderland and that's how I got the title.

Woud probably the Lagg-3 serie 4 be a better fit for this campaign? I need a good reason to fly that plane 😁

yes, indeed.  I plan on re-making it with the older series 4.
