IL-2 Korea and Combat Pilot: Which do you have more faith in and why?

Generally never considered putting faith in any game, but expectations on entertainment value is a go.  Obviously depends on what they're shared and the state of progress on what's being shown.

Higher on the Korea project since presales are a fact and release is emmenant, so what was the question again?

The Il2 Korea is near release. The combat pilot has just lost one of its key person, and the steam free alpha demo was disastrously basic and premature. It is very far from a usable game.

Faith i put only in God's mercy. Nothing else.

Combat pilot: the demo was lame. I wouldn't have released that. See the mega successful and top quality RockStar Games company. When they release, it's something AWESOME.

Il-2 Korea: the devs already prove themselves capable of giving very good stuff, over many years.

Probably will have some ups and downs at the start, but i trust will be the next generation combat flight sim.

Taking advertising and hype apart, the signs are good. Only hope they are learning from others mistakes and will not release before it's sufficiently playable.

So, my guess is that Korea's going to be our next playground. With some personal concerns regarding computer specs: not that they are too high, just hoping to be not too high for me.

Obviously Korea is the game closest to completion, we don’t have to worry if it will ever actually release unlike Combat Pilot.

For setting alone though, I have more hype for Combat Pilot. Korea just doesn't have nearly as much appeal to me and I've been one of the "when Pacific" voices for years

I didn't play the demo and it's not available any more; I think it was just a pre-alpha test and the devs purpose was to collect data on performance, compitability etc. from as many testers as possible.

The Combat Pilot steam trial was absolutely futile. Either the game will have PS2 level graphics, or the visuals will be overhauled from the ground up, and then all the collected data will become useless.

It made a very bad impression, for me that demo killed all the hype for the game. VERY bad graphics, (TSR only) triangle shaped vegetation on the ground popping in and out from 50m, and still unplayable fps when flying low over an island the size of a football field. All this in a top tier gaming pc.

I don't know how they think this can be released this year (or the next)...

I don't think a demo (I didn't get to play it) during the alpha stage should be seen as representative for the eventual game. Still, I think that IL2 deserves more faith, and I cannot see how anyone could disagree. IL2:Korea is weeks away from release, and in IL2:GB has a solid base. CP still has a long way to go, and is built from the ground up. The OP's question is a no-brainer.

I didn't have any issue with the state of alpha release of Combat Pilot. It's an alpha, they were upfront about that fact, and I felt my expectations were managed adequately and accurately, and took it for what it was. I am hopeful for good things in the future and see no point in being a pessimist about it at this stage.

Meanwhile we *see* good things on a weekly basis from Korea. There *will* be some great improvements, and we're mere weeks away from experiencing them.

What I don't know is how well either title will stack up as a complete experience, which is much more than can be shown in screenshots and a few video clips. Great Battles had some drawbacks that hurt the experience for me, like the AI, engine management, and the single player experience. One title is being created by one of the main people who made Great Battles what it is. The other is Great Battles' direct descendant. Will they change their approach to these things in their respective new simulators? There's always the risk that the apple won't fall quite far enough from the tree. We'll find out soon for one, and later for the other.

No, he just left.

Anyway, I find the question about faith to be quite irrelevant right now. 1CGS is releasing their Korean sim soon™. Combat Pilot is not releasing anything soon, nor will they make a Korean module. So in the short term, the choice is between IL-2 or nothing.

Perhaps 1CGS will release a Pacific module in two years time and only then can there possibly be a choice, but we will have way more information about the quality of the new 1CGS engine, including how well it handles carriers, as well as where Combat Pilot then stands.

Jason Williams has just left the developement team of Combat Pilot, this is anything but promising...

He left IL-2 years ago too. According to posts in this forum, yet people very much trust IL-2 and are very excited about it´s future.

Not arguing for or against. In this case though, I just don´t see a correlation in people leaving a team, going their own way and a project failing.

If you didn't uncheck the "Lumen" setting as was suggested by Jason in the notes for the "demo" it looked like you described.

I had very high frame rates, no trouble flying over the island of any kind.  Frankly your expectations exceeded your understanding of what a pre Alpha demo is.
