Hi all , As per the thread title I am returning to IL2 multiplayer after quite an absence to say the least . I have realised that my old windows PC gaming rig , which was pretty decent back in the day,  is no longer in spec to play the modern titles which Is a problem that I am in the process of sorting .

I have been looking at the IL2 web store and recognise that now would be a good time to acquire several of the modules , curious question incoming … At present we are an all apple household , Am I able to purchase the modules , download the files to an Apple IMac / IPad Pro , and then transfer the files via data storage device or direct hook up to the new windows PC that I am building , at a later date when the PC is completed ? I would be most grateful for any advice as to ny issues with date or file downloads via this method that I am unaware of.

All the best .

What would you achieve by downloading the software to hardware that can't run it? Even if it could be done (which I doubt), it is likely to be out of date, given the frequency of updates. If you want to take advantage of the sale, buy what you want now, and install it when the PC is ready.

Thank you for your response to my querry , most kind , However Is that not what I have been at pains to outline ? And queried … My plan is to take advantage of the current IL2 sale buy and download the modules at the sale prices , whilst they are available at those prices , via my Mac , Obviously not to attempt to install them on an Apple system , merely as a download and storage facility and then transfer the files to my in process Windows build PC , to be installed at a later date when required … I thought that I had made this pretty clear No ?

You can buy the game now and install/download it whenever you want. They keep track what modules you own and you can re-download at any time.

At least that is how it works if you buy via steam. ( online store/game download/updater thingy: https://store.steampowered.com/ IL2 is on there)

But I strongly assume it works the same if you buy via the IL2 website.

Thank you for your advice , yes that was/is  my plan , you cover a point that I totally forgot to mention Gutholz , should one buy a module at a certain point in time , via the IL2 website shop . Is it similar to steam where once purchased one may download the module at a later date , having already purchased it ? My apologies gentlemen for what may seem ill educated questions , however back in my day everything was sold and delivered on CD/DVD hard copy .

Yup, you can download it whenever you like. Multiple times, if you need to reinstall for any reason.

Some things to know:

- With the Steam version, you must buy "Battle of Stalingrad" as the mandatory entry point into the series. Any additional modules or DLC you buy on Steam are only playable with the Steam version of Battle of Stalingrad.

- Steam will let you refund the Battle of Stalingrad main game if it doesn't work on your new PC; but I don't think DLC can be refunded.

- The IL-2 webstore allows you to buy any module as your starting point. If, for example, you are only interested in World War One, you can buy all the Flying Circus modules and nothing else.

- You'll pay a very small surcharge with IL-2 webstore purchases when you complete your transaction. Steam's price is exactly what is listed at checkout.

- I don't think the IL-2 webstore offers any refunds.

- The IL-2 webstore and Steam versions use different launchers. (You can have both versions installed simultaneously.)

- IL-2 webstore items can be used in the Steam version if you connect your two accounts.

And you can buy now and install later, from either Steam or the IL-2 webstore. I recommend you keep your purchase small for now though, until you know if you like the game. The sales come around fairly often, every 1-2 months or so.

The IL-2 webstore used to have discounts and promotions more often than Steam; and some content not offered on Steam. Now the two sources are practically the same and the sales are simultaneous. You can even save more money on Steam if you take advantage of the bundles. The only advantage the IL-2 webstore offers anymore is Early Access as new modules are being developed, usually months before the finished module is offered on Steam.
