A few questions that I now got a new rig...

Turn icons on !

You can toggle them on and off in-game, as you please.

I seem to cope fine with FR's that sometimes drop to 30 or below.

You should be able to play quite well with 60.

- use your compass. Look at the heading you are flying when you attack.

If you pass them and do a circle to get behind them, remember your compass heading and look in that direction first.

- keep the enemies in view, even if you are flying in different directions. To look around turn your head, not just the plane.

-in this case, the transporters are pretty slow you might want to throttle down if you get behind them.

We can get better help if you record a video. You have a Geforce card, so Nvivia App is easy to use:

Or press ctrl+R to record a track and upload it to forum.

At this time, the only way to find the enemy planes is through object identification and red arrows. I cannot see how the function of the pad lock works. I turn on and off and I cannot see a difference? Dai

Icons means the name of the enemy planes right? What key would toggle on off? I just cannot find it in the menu. Your help is appreciated. Dai

Visibility is not great in Il-2: GB. You can easily lose the target after few maneuvers if you are not aware of its initial heading. Try to Zoom-in and scan the area.

As for the whole topic: I think that when you address the doctor you don't expect that he will cure you via your photo. Same here. You can easily capture your games using GPU utilities and show the whole problem to us, avoiding unclear and controversial questions.

My apologies for being vey naieve with all the jargons. But I am learning a bit every day. Today's sims are way more complex than the ones I got hooked on in the early 90's. Dai

PS: I recorded a short clip and saved in IL2 menu. How do I upload here on the forum or I have to create a YT account to upload? Dai

Default key is 'i' to toggle on / off, and you can map that to a joystick button if it would be easier.

But they won't work on an online server that doesn't allow icons.

Good luck !

If you have made a record using the in-game built option (Ctrl+R or whatever), then it's a .trk track file. You can find it in game folder/data/tracks.

Nowadays forums allow only small files up to 5 MB. So you should upload it to something like Google Drive or WeTransfer, Dropbox, etc. and give a direct link.

YouTube is fine for captured videos tho.

When I choose "choose files" where can I locate the clip? I am terribly sorry to be so new at this. Dai

As I said, your track file should be in your game installation folder/data/tracks. That's if you've used in-game recording option.

But if you captured it by your Nvidia GPU utilities it should be located somewhere in Windows' Videos folder, idk.

Yes I look in the IL2 folder/data/tracks and it is empty. I use in game recording. Dai

Do you able to locate and play your record ingame? If no, then it wasn't saved properly (Ctrl+R to start, Ctrl+R to stop).

Can't tell more, I don't use tracks recording.

when the recording is active (default keys: ctrl+R to start/stop) then there should be a red icon in top right corner.

Hello all,

I am able to record a short footage thanks to Gutholz guidance using the Nvidia App. But it will not let me load as it is bigger than 5 MB although the clip is very short (less than 2 minutes). What to do besides sign up with YT and post it there then link here? Dai

I wrote about it a few messages earlier. Find it, please, and try to figure it out.

Yes finally I was able to find the file like you suggest but I cannot load due to incorrect file extension. I was able to create a file via Nvidia App with correct extension but larger than 5 MB. The only way is to upload to YT and link it here. I took your guidance instead of ignoring it as it seems to you. Thanks again. Dai

Now I think about it, it is a tad big. I think 55" TV designed for gaming with 144 Hz is more a practical considerations. Dai

If you still have a problem with file type, you can add it to rar or 7zip. Should be enough.

Greetings,

I have decided to upgrade to the more powerful 5080 GPU. Now I have to get a TV that is designed for gaming. Tell me what you think about the TV choice (not yet bought). The PC will be here Tuesday. Dai

Alienware Aurora Gaming Desktop Intel Core Ultra 9 285K 2024 32GB Memory NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 16GB 2TB Storage Black DACT1250-9338BLK-PUS - Best Buy

TCL 65" Class QM6K Series 4K UHD HDR QD Mini LED Smart TV with Google TV (2025) 65QM6K - Best Buy

The more powerful pc will not really help with your problem of loosing track of ai planes. It also won`t solve your youtube problem.

Yes of course as I have to learn how to fly and shoot as well as learning how to upload videos. I think 60 Hz refresh rate on my current TV is really causing the stuttering and the 5070 is a mid end level GPU that should be upgraded. For a little more I get the 5080 so why not? I am upgrading to get the best hardware that I can afford, not to solve my poor piloting skill or naieveness in uploading videos.

I got involved in flight sims way back in 1991 hooked on Chuck Yeager's Air Combat and I am amazed of how things get so complicated 36 years later. All the flight sims in the 90's I have played them all and was an ace online whooping asses back then. Dai
