Hello all,

I have I7 Ultra 2.4. Is this adequate for the IL2? Thanks Dai

I7 Ultra 2.4 is not a proper specification. There is a Core 7 Ultra, but not an i7 Ultra. Can you post what the about page in your system settings actually says? Including the actual type of the CPU (which would be a three digit number with possibly a suffix, for the Core Ultra CPUs).

Is it a laptop or a desktop? Do you have a gaming PC or desktop with a discrete GPU, or do you only have the GPU built into the CPU?

For Great Battles or for Korea?

We can't really answer your question without better information from you.

My apologies for being so ignorant. This is the CPU:

Intel Core Ultra 7 265, 2400 Mhz, 20 cores, 20 Logical Processors.  Intel Graphics Adaptor. Thank you so much for helping! Dai

hello, daiphan.

20 cores, wow. what?

unfortunately our good, old Great Battles engine uses only 2 from my modest 8 cores. 🙂 so core clock speed is more important that core numbers. 2400 MHz, buh.... not so good. i guess your CPU is conceived for multitasking, like server duty ???

second, your RAM: how much? 8 GB would be a minimum, but 16 better. Also from my experience, the game never used more than 11-13 GB ram from the 32 available. never.

third: GPU. your integrated one i guess will suffice to launch the game, but not much further. I have a integrated card in my Ryzen, never bothered to use it thou. What i can tell you is that in Great Battles an overclocked Rx 6600xt, with 8 GB vram, does the job well, in almost any circumstances at 1440p. (but NOT VR !!!) so my uneducated opinion is that without a GPU, no go.

This for GB. Korea, well, for that you need real firepower.

We have some really good harware wizards here, maybe they can give you good advice about upgrading.

P.S. dunno about Korea, 'cause it's still in the closet, but GB is really a good, mature, complex and immersive simulator. Really worth betting some hardware money on it. Why? because it's the bird in the hand. We know its limitations and its goodies.

Well, if you ask me, dai, this is getting  into Korea haven.... 🙂

So, it's really  over kill for GB, and perfect for next gen Korea...

This should,  IMHO, be enough for doing a very good next gen (Korea ) sim.

Don't forgot about joystick & hotas devices. Without them, it's no real deal.

I would suggest virpil as my choice, but that's my personal opinion

Omg, now I've followed your link for that rig. It's 2.5 k usd. I mean, at current prices, it petty decent, I think, but the prices for hardware are sooo high.... I was dreaming of giving my current rig to my older kid and getting a new one for Korea, but i guess that would get me divorced ! 😄😄😄

It's fine to cost 2.5 k a diamond bracelet, but a new computer, what for? Women thinking..... different points of views..... I hope overclocking and upscaling are enough.....

Check your local Costco they're running frequently sales on gaming PCs

Considering this has 5080... great deal IMO

Hi all,

I look at Costco and not much there is. I am thinking of buying that one from Best Buy as they have 90 day return policy since I am a member. I got into flight sim way back in 1990 with Chuck Yeager Air Combat. Then Red Baron 3D and after 10 years hiatus I am back again. So unless I am wrong that rig is an excellent choice for IL2? Hi all,

After 10 years hiatus and looks like I will do a major upgrade of the hardware. Also will get the largest TV possible. Dai

That's actually the idle speed, which is completely irrelevant, since that is just how slow it goes when there is no real load on the CPU, to save power. This CPU actually goes to 5.3 GHz, which is perfectly fine for IL-2.

It's also a very recent desktop processor, so daiphan potentially has a PC that can be upgraded. The real issue is the lack of a discrete GPU.

Daiphan can potentially save a lot of money by adding a discrete GPU to the current PC, that is very recent, as it is from 2025 or later, given the CPU. This is generally a relatively simple procedure. A 5070 Ti can be bought for around $1000, and that is one of the best buys right now for a fast and fairly futureproof GPU. The 5080 has very similar performance and such, but is a lot more expensive.

Daiphan, perhaps you still have the invoice from your current PC and can post the specs from the invoice? Then I can probably tell you with certainty whether an upgrade is feasible, based on the brand and model of the PC you currently have, and may also be able to give a link to a video on how to do it.

Please don't include your personal information if you post a picture of (part of) the invoice.

Hi all,

How about this one? It has a stronger GPU but the name brand is not well known. Alienware or IBUYPOWER? Dai

iBUYPOWER is one of the main sellers of prebuilt PCs and they tend to do fairly well in reviews of prebuilt PCs, so I would not worry about buying from them (other than that I don't trust prebuild PCs in general).

I would very much choose a 5080 over a 5070. That is going to be a big difference in performance, as well as how futureproof the system is.

I already ordered the Alienware to be delivered tomorrow 😞. Shall I return and get the IBUYPOWER? Will see I significant performance's improvement when playing IL2 or ROF with the later? Dai

PS: I plan to use a 98" TV for the screen.

I have read online reviews of the IBP and the general finding is inconsistent in quality control. However with Alienware it is good in quality control and quality machine. But it does not have the 5080 so what to do? I appreciate what you have to say so I can make the right decision. Thanks all, Dai

Not with the current version of IL-2 or ROF, but with the upcoming Korea version for sure. And also if you later decide to go for VR, even with the current IL-2 version.

I would personally return it and get the IBUYPOWER.

And all prebuild brands regularly suffer from shipment damage or quality control issues. That is why I prefer to build my own. Then at least everything I break is under my control 😛

In the future can I buy the GPU and replace the 5070 or better using THIS current Alienware PC? IBP just has too many quality issues from what I gather online. Thanks Dai

Yes, if there is room in the case for the card to fit. However, generally you would want to keep the GPU for a decent while before you upgrade, because upgrading to a card of the same generation of GPUs generally loses you quite a bit of money in how much you can sell the old card for, vs the price of the new one.

So just enjoy the 5070 for now and only start worrying about it when you get performance issues, which should not be the case with ROF and IL-2 GB on a flat screen.

" if there is room..." so that means there is a chance I may not be able to upgrade to the 5080 ? The 5080 is slightly bigger in size. If I am going to keep this rig and get back into sims I need to think ahead. I like to get the Alienware instead of the IBUYPOWER as the former is well known with quality while the latter has many complaints of its quality. Your advise is very much appreciated. Dai

There is no fixed GPU size, as different vendors make their own coolers, so the size will differ.

Also, Alienware is not exactly known for quality, as they for a long time prioritized looks over function, and sold gaming PCs with insufficient cooling and custom components that making upgrading very hard or impossible. But I think that with their latest generation(s) they changed that. So you can probably transplant the parts to a different case if you want to upgrade and there is no way to make things fit in the current case.

But most likely there is enough space to upgrade because 5070 coolers are quite big already.

The new rig is here with entry level HOTAS. I have 60 days return window so I can always change it for the IBP. It is just the negative reviews of this company that scares me. I welcome all inputs. Dai
