Defend Velikie Luki part 2 is a 15-mission single player scripted campaign in which the Player will fly the I-16 type 24 on the Velikie Luki map.  Missions are from August 3-30, 1941.  This "part 2" is a continuation of the original "Defend Velikie Luki 1941" campaign.  The time period covers the defense and fall of Velikie Luki and the fall of Toropets as the Germans capture all the territory up to the Western Dvina River.  Inspiration for the missions are from actual battles noted by author David M. Glantz.

**Notes:

*You MUST HAVE the I-16 type 24.

*A mission is successful when the player destroys a target or makes a successful landing.  If target objectives are completed then it is not necessary to make a landing.

*All missions start on the runway with engine running.

*Mission descriptions are in English-only, sorry.

*Books cited:  Black Cross Red Star volume 1 by Bergstrom; Barbarossa Derailed volume 2 by Glantz.

Note for future Sim updates:  Whenever Great Battles is updated, mission files get broken and must be updated, again and again, rendering them unplayable.  In order to fix the missions, open the IL-2 Sturmovik Mission Editor... in the TOOLS dropdown list, choose "Resave All Missions in Folder" and navigate to the Campaigns and/or Missions folder in your computer (IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles/data/Campaigns) and click "OK".

I should mention that Glantz's books, "Barbarossa Derailed, The Battle for Smolensk 10 July - 10 September 1941, volumes 1 & 2" are a great source of information about the Velikie Luki battles as well as the other battles happening simultaneously all along the Central Front during that time period.  Glantz gives a day-by-day action report for each Soviet Army as well as the Soviet Air Force (VVS) report.    I could easily follow along every day and know where a battle was being fought and then create a mission for a particular day.  I was particularly impressed with the VVS bad weather reports which helps me to include rainy days in my missions.
