Bert_Foster Posted February 18 Posted February 18 (edited) If you Spawn on the runway the Oil temp is 130 C ... thats out of limits ! (ASH82Fn Oil Temp limits are 50-75C normal 85C max in flight ... source LA5FN Flight manual) Engine Warm up times for CHT are also excessive. Not that it affects game play .As you can select Full power at 20C CHT. In a real radial the engine would cough and protest and you would cause damage. Ideally on a Standard day with Gills and Cowl flap closed it should be no more than say 4 mins or so to achieve a value of say 140C CHT. The minimum for unrestricted operation. What I see in game Stalingrad Summer 1200hrs, Front Louvres closed,Cowl flaps closed. Start CHT goes to 20C. Run engine at Idle at 5Min CHT still 20C. Increase RPM to 1200RPM (all the brakes can hold). At T=+9min the max CHT I get is 40C. I can never get enough CHT to IRL take off. So from a realism point of view, You cant do a cold start and get airborne as you will never get a Minimum CHT to permit setting take off power. You cant spawn at the runway either your Oil Temp is way over limit. EDIT: LA5FN is identical. LA5 and LA5F have the same issue when Spawning at the runway... excessive Oil Temp. Cold Start spawn the engine Heats more normally. Edited February 18 by Bert_Foster 1

I also thought that oil temp is wrong, but not. What official specification says is: Oil rated temperature in engine intake: 65..75 °C Oil maximum temperature in engine intake: 85 °C but it is INTAKE temp, and in La-7 or La-5 we have only OIL OUTLET TEMP gauge, so according to official M-82FN manual everything is correct, and recommended oil (outlet) temp should be 115°C - just as we have. I think such details should be explained or corredted in official specification, so no one gets confused. 1
Bert_Foster Posted April 2 Author Posted April 2 This from the LA7 tech manual. Google translate says Temperature is measured "entering" the Engine.
mrtomek Posted April 2 Posted April 2 Yes, but I think this refers to this gauge that we have in DCS, where temperatures during flight are just 60-70C/max 85C: In Il-2's La-7 we have during flight faaaaaar higher temperatures, about 105-115C (even during aircraft spawning on runway): so it would suggest that we have outlet temp here (just as in Il-2 aircraft, where inlet temp is on another gauge). BTW fuel and oil pressures don't seem to match parameters from manuals either. I think this is interesting topic and we need more specialists here 😉
