Bert_Foster Posted February 15 Posted February 15 (edited) This is based on the YAK3 bit applies to all the YAK series. In Game After selecting gear up, the Gear handle is placed to Neutral. This depressurizes the jacks and the gear is held up by Mechanical locks (this is correct). When Gear down is selected the handle moves directly to the down position then back to neutral. This is incorrect. The correct procedure as detailed in the YAK3 Manual is: With the gear up and you want to select down. First place the Gear handle in the up position for 2-3 seconds. This then pressurizes the Jack on the up side. Then select gear down and leave it in the down position. Neutral is only selected immediately prior to shutdown. The importance of first selecting the handle up is to repressurize the jacks so the held pressure acts as a damper during the gear down cycle... this upside air is then progressively dumped as part of the down cycle. If you don't first select up, the gear will slam down with great force with accordingly wear and tear issues. This because there is no damping effect as the upside side pressure is dumped. This is a standard Yak practice that still holds true today with the YAK52. Extract from YAK3 manual: Edited February 15 by Bert_Foster 1 Quote
Bert_Foster Posted February 15 Author Posted February 15 Out of interest. The Hissing sound you hear is the Air in the Up/Down side of the Jack being dumped during transit. The Air is dumped through a bleed hole in the gear handle itself ... that's why you can hear it 🙂 Quote
