tikijoetots37 Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I'm an avid simmer, have every single module/dlc from IL2 GB and along with MP, I play a ton of Career Mode, both GB's standard Career mode and PWCG. My biggest want in any sim is authenticity, close to real life as possible. My biggest and #1 overall gripe, as is many is IL2 GB's AI. To be fair, this is pretty much a complaint across the board for any modern Combat flight sim. So what is going to be the difference that separates Korea from Great Battles and other sims? I've watched a few dev diaries and have not seen much regarding the AI, and have not read much on the forums about it. To be honest, I've been playing a lot more DCS here lately over the last couple of years but I have over 3k hours in IL2 but I've kinda just been hanging around waiting for Korea. To kinda get what I'm talking about when I say AI, I think the combat AI portion as far as initial engagement isn't all that bad in IL2 GB, (not including Flying Circus, there it is pretty awful). The ww2 stuff isn't horrible and I've found myself on the receiving end of bad luck a good amount. Though, I think the biggest issue with GB ww2 is AI self preservation. I've put many many, many hours in SP career mode and the vast majority of missions end with my squadron taking 75-100% losses. They will fly at 1500m in a straight line over heavy AAA fire, they will fly slow at low levels not even blinking through flak field getting shot down one by one, and then whatever is left of that will decide to fight against a swarm of superior aircraft both mechanically and in number to the death instead of booking it home. And then the one or two friendly AI that survive that start their way home back to base will drag the victorious enemy who for some reason or another decide shooting down 10 of their adversaries planes wasn't enough will give chase all the way to our base only to circle around their enemies airfield and get completely wiped by our friendly flak and AAA. I'm just saying, it is hard to stay immersed when the vast majority of times your landing back at base and you end mission everyone you went up with is dead or captured. This pretty much make it were flying the career campaign with anything other than start as leader from the beginning is pretty much impossible unless you just don't care about realism. Though, even if you are babysitting as the leader, it still gets pretty bad as no one listens to orders like return to base or anything else until your wingmen are done fighting to the death for their most sought after place in Valhalla. So my question is, what are we looking forward to with Korea? Are any of the above going to be improved? From what I gather it is a new engine but when I've watched the video, not going to lie, things look pretty similar to GB with updated graphics which has me a little worried that the whole thing is going to be a reskin with upgraded graphics and a few tweaks here and there. Aapje Posted February 12 Posted February 12 They stated that at least the radio orders should be actually followed in the new game. Other than that, we will have to see. 1 Quote

Dunno about Korea, we'll see, just as Aapje said, but in GB, the custom made scripted campaigns, freeware or payware, or at least those made by hand , not generated, have a much better AI behaivour. Dunno why. The guys making them must do some tricks , modifing behaviour, something. My utmost desire is also to be realistic. Quote
Donik Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Also super curious about this. I really hope the AI is improved. I know it's not going to be perfect, but some work here would go a really long way. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Quote
Veteran66 Posted February 15 Posted February 15 I hope the new AI will give us good tactical options for commanding the wingmen, and we get good information for navigation, target finding and air traffic.
