Hi, Does the game have a graphics quality that can be attained by top of the range graphics cards, I run a MSI GeForce GTX 1616 super 6GB and 16GB RAM, I know that there is an in games settings option that can be altered.  With my graphics the game looks very good but could that be pushed even higher ?   I am thinking of the future with the new Korean war module not far away, which could be demanding when it comes to graphic quality.

Cheers

Not sure what your question is. The GTX 1660 (which I suppose you mean) is a mediocre card at best. So yes, if you have a top-range card, you can attain a higher graphics quality. With my RTX4080 I can run everything on Ultra on 2D, but have to switch some settings down in VR.

What quality you can attain with your current rig, you'll have to test for yourself.  Just move some settings up, fly a demanding mission (e.g. a couple of planes over Leningrad) and check if your framerate stays acceptable.

Thanks, Yes I did mean GTX 1660 which is now about 4 years old, but even so it still performs well with settings high,  and in a crowded dog fight it performs well

I just wondered if I would see a dramatic increase in all aspects if I decided to purchase more powerful graphics card.

It depends on what you plan to do! That means here: resolution.
If you are already happy with your graphics settings, then nothing will change. Are you in 1080p? Maybe it will let you set up more quality in some options if they are not maxed out. But nothing more.

If you want to increase resolution to 1440p for example, your game will look a lot better even on the same settings, but you will need a more powerful GPU.

A jump to a 4070 or 5070ti will make a big difference, if you can find one.

If you want to know what to expect if you upgrade, take a look at recent official screenshots. E.g. of the S&L module. Those are taken at max settings.

Yes, in general you can say that graphics settings are a balancing act between 3 axes: visual quality, resolution and framerate. Getting a better card allows you to have a higher quality at the same framerate, or the same quality at a higher resolution and framerate, or any other combination. What the best tradeoff is, and whether or not a GPU upgrade is worth it, is a highly personal question. E.g. on some games I've gone to framerates in the high 20s in exchange for some extra visuals, while other people would rather defenestrate themselves than go any lower than 60FPS.

Do keep in mind that the CPU performance can also limit what settings you can use.

This is very true.  The CPU will be handling stuff like simulation, object position, and culling.  The performance of the render thread will be influenced mainly by number of objects.

The graphics card will handle putting stuff on screen and has two main responsibilities: processing geometry and processing pixels.  The performance of vertex and related programs are affected by the geometry on screen.  The performance of the pixel programs are affected by render resolution.  To help with pixel shader performance, modern graphics pipelines often include upscaling to the screen res.

I think VR is expensive because the process has to be done twice.  Once for each camera, from the culling stage.  If your gcard is a beast, settings reductions based on object distance and number might give the most bang for your buck.

So, I post this here, maybe it's gonna help somebody.

I have a monitor that is 1080p as recommended resolution and used this for the past 4 years.

Since I overclocked my oldish system, I activated a "thing" by AMD Radeon (Nvidia also has it) called "Virtual Super Resolution", practically rendering at 1440p (ingame setting) and then supposedly downgrading to the monitor's 1080p.

What happened was:

- the image is way more clear

- the monitor is actually rendering at 1440p !!

- the target 90 fps is more stable ! (What??)

- the system load is a tad bit lower, with frame time down to 10 ms from 11 ms

Can't fully understand what happened, but it's great!
