PROXIMVS Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Hello. I just purchased and downloaded this version of the game and I am finding it hopelessly confusing. The only way I have been able to find of reviewing and setting up the controls seems to be while actually in flight, which resulted in me flying a P-38 right into the ground. I don't seem to be able to select a map. Is there a guide available providing instructions on how to set up the controls, select maps. start missions, etc? I am not even certain quite how I started the one with the P-38. This is nothing at all like Il-2 '46. Thank you. Quote
Gutholz Posted February 9 Posted February 9 (edited) After starting the game, in the main menu go to: Settings -> Keymappings I do not know of a guide, what part do you have problems with? Click a controll that you want to set up and follow the instructions that appear. Easiest way to start a flight is the "Quick Start" Option in main menu. You will see a map with some icons, use the mouse to move around. (like on google maps) On the top right there is a dropdown list, to select a different map. Each icon stands for a different quick-mission type. A single plane icon is basically free flight with some random ground targets. Click it: a menu will open to select your plane and loadout. Then click green start button in bottom left. An icon with two planes is duel. You can select your plane, plane for your opponent, starting altitude etc. Icon with multiple planes is like duel but multiple planes per side. Tank icon is..driving tanks. The faction icons (Axis/Allies) allow to select a bit more complex mission. (intercepting bombers, attacking ground targets etc) and will have waypoints to follow. I feel like maybe you select the Campain, Career or Mission options? There you can not select a map because you are following pre-set missions. The "Quick Start" really is best for starting out, try that. good luck 🙂 Edited February 9 by Gutholz 1 Quote
PROXIMVS Posted February 10 Author Posted February 10 I did not see a quick start option. I find myself orbiting an early Il-2 variant. I think hitting Enter opened a map with very limited options available, none of which included a way of setting my controllers (joystick, quadrants, rudder pedals) or surveying the keyboard controls. I never saw a green start button. Maybe I have a bad download. Thank you. Quote

I think by hitting Enter you actually opend the "Quick Start" map. For start, use the mouse. It is easier to show in video than explain in text, so I recorded a quick video: Sorry for the cable mess 😶, I am still setting up. Edited February 10 by Gutholz 1 Quote
PROXIMVS Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 Thank you all for the help. Funny. The screen resolution was the issue: the default was too low, so I was not seeing the entire screen 😂 I finally have the wrinkles worked out of the controls ... mostly. 1 Quote
taffy2 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Something also worth knowing is that if you wish to fly a twin engine aircraft from startup, you have to follow this sequence , you are sitting in the cockpit, bottom left of screen you will see the engine selection boxes marked one and two, just select one by cancelling out two, click E which is the default button to start engines , both engines will now start one after the other. With both engines now running select engine # two this will now enable both engines to be increased or decreased. If you forget this only one engine will power up and your plane will just go around in circles. Good Luck PS All the selecting, engines one and two and also engine start "E" is all done from your keyboard Quote
