Past development updates have mentioned the radar gunsights on several occasions - they've even included discussions of how the radars worked - so I've every reason to assume they will be.
LuftManu Posted February 7 Posted February 7 I think I will have some fun flying this one! Not as famous or agile as a Sabre, but will pack a punch 🙂 Thanks team! 1
BlitzPig_EL Posted February 7 Posted February 7 Looking forward to same kerosene powered ground pounding in the F84

It is interesting - because Canada flew Canadair Sabres in Western Germany for a considerable period (but only exchanged pilots in Korea) - I actually don't associate the F-86 that strongly with Korea. The same goes for the Mig-15 - which appeared is a number of other conflicts. In comparison - the F-84 is the iconic Korean War aircraft for me.
kestrel79 Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Anyone know why a return to the birdcage cockpit here and not a bubble canopy?
Dash,Polder Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Just a WAG, but due to the speeds involved and the actual size of the canopy, a single piece in those days of that size probably would have easily deformed and been subject to cracking and collapse. It took a while to come up with a solution for the F-15's and 16's which also rely on massive bubble canopies. Dozens of test canopies were sent into the wind tunnels with the chicken gun until suitably strong materials were found in the 70's. 5
MajorMagee Posted February 9 Posted February 9 (edited) I've actually been to the University of Dayton's test lab where they have these, along with the fastest gun on earth for testing orbital speed impacts. A live test is an impressive thing to watch. I've also been on a commercial flight out of Dayton that had a bird strike the windshield as we were climbing out on the way to Charlotte. If I recall correctly, they also lengthened the canopy and installed more frames over time... so it is an interesting question (as the F-84 carried at least three different canopies).
Dash,Polder Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Visibility should be top notch for ground attack out of that green house. Over the nose looks spectacular, surprised no one commented on the working refraction effects on the front armored glass, FW-190 gun sight refraction wars issue resolved. Also look at where the wings are in relation to the pilots seating position, they're not even close to being a limiting factor on ground target spotting and tracking. Going to be a ground attackers wet dream, I'm already salivating on getting my hands on her. Not only good visuals for ground attack but self defense too. If you look closely you'll actually see a double refraction going on, one on the gun sight glass, the other for the armored windshield. 2
