Best results in Pimax Crystal Super with 4090

So far I’m loving the resolution and FOV and my aircraft spotting is much improved.  I am getting some strange color patterns though (like the red/green coloring you get if you wear 3D glasses).  Also I’m getting about 65 fps in Steam VR.  Open composite seems to not love my Crystal Super.  I am only on my first day of use but I would love some help getting this thing maxed out.

In most games, I am getting the best result with disabled DFR, Smart Smoothing, GPU Upscaling options in Pamax Play. Try to change the default OpenXR Runtime to Pimax instead of Steam VR. After you can try to adjust game's graphical settings to find an optimal balance between FPS and quality.
A strange color pattern could be a result of enabled DFR.

Game crash is what you'll ultimately get with DFR on, it isn't supported, and if your running full graphics it won't be long to desktop.

I did change it to Pimax OpenXR.  Frames are still about 65 fps

I recently made a VR graphics settings guide for IL-2 GB and the Pimax Crystal Super. I hope this guide helps you. I’m using a 5080 for comparison. These headsets have a really high resolution, which makes the image very clear, but even modern GPUs have a hard time running this with everything maxed out. I wish we had DLSS as it would be a much better antialiasing solution for us VR users compared to NIS/FSR and the existing FXAA/MSAA options in game.
